Requesting help

I have 145k Aeroplan points and 106k Amex points. We are 2 adults and 1 toddler (3yo) looking to fly out of YYZ to Amsterdam or nearby airports in March/April 2027. I know these points are not enough for a return flight but is it possible to get 1 way premium economy or business ? Is it possible to add 1 extended stopover somewhere in Europe on the way. Where could that be ? Where should I be looking because i couldn't find anything through AC. Should I transfer Amex points to Aeroplan preemptively?

I can book economy if business or PE doesnt work. Thank you in advance!

What is the best way to use Aeroplan points?

My fiancée and I are getting married next year.

We have been building up Aeroplan points throughout the past year through family sharing with the hopes of using them towards the honeymoon trip.

What would be the best use of points now that we have a lot saved up? Hotels? Booking flights? Last minute flight upgrades?

Should we continue to buy the flights in cash and then use the points for other things?

Edit: we currently have around 400k points saved and expect to plan our honeymoon/wedding in 2028.

What is the best stopover routing you pulled off?

I got LAX-SYD-SIN-KUL-NRT(via BKK)-YYZ(via YVR) on UA, SQ, SQ, TG, and AC respectively, for 257.5K pts + $465CAD, all J cabin. The cash price would have been $17,869CAD, and I averaged 6.69cpp net of the taxes/fees. This was 50 hours and 18 minutes in business class, making a big circle around the Pacific Ocean.

I started in Toronto, but did YYZ-PDX-LAX economy in cash. Got to check out PNW, SoCal, Australia, Singapore+Malaysia, Japan (Sapporo only, just paid cash fare on a budget airline), and came back to Canada on AC. This was Summer 2025.

Anyone else pull off some epic trips?

Is it worth using 16k miles for a domestic business class seat

Hello,

I was looking up reward flights for Montreal - Edmonton and saw a direct flight for 16k points + 290 CAD in business class. The same seat is 875 dollars in cash. Was wondering if this is a good use of points

Double SQC promo

The last few years, in early September, AC sent targeted offers for 2-5x the SQD/S etc. does anyone have any ideas of they’ll do this again for SQC? I’m holding off booking some work flights until I get the email!

Aeroplan Layover - Checked Bags

Hi folks, I'm flying to Canada with a few days layover in Germany. I booked this ticket through points and added a layover. Can someone tell me if I'd get my checked bags in Germany or are they routed all the way to Canada as this is the first time for me?

Is it worth cancelling a paid ticket and use 55K pp flight business class instead?

For context, we paid $1,180 for two one-way tickets in Economy. If we cancel this now, we will be refunded around $300.

I saw that there’s a 55K direct flight to Tokyo in BC and I was wondering if its worth it to cancel the ticket and rebook it using points for BC?

Hahaha i’m confused if it’s even worth it. Help?

Family of 4 YYZ to Europe - economy or premium?

Amateur points user here.

We are planning a trip to Tallinn, then returning from Amsterdam December 2027. We expect to have enough points for Premium Economy one way and economy on the other. I believe that business is likely not a viable option for 4 (kids will be 5 and 7), though that would be amazing since it’s a big milestone year for our family. We are prepared to book the flight right at the booking window open knowing that we are traveling peak holiday season.

We were thinking doing PE on the outbound as it is a red eye and thought that we’d be more comfortable sleeping on the wider seats, but from some research I’m finding that those arm rests are fixed. I’m now second guessing and maybe we should do premium on the return? Or maybe it doesn’t matter at all and our best choice for optimizing for our situation is do economy both ways?

Would appreciate insight from those who are more well traveled and well experienced in this. The main leg in question is the YYZ-Europe (leaving this generic, bec we are actually starting from Halifax and unsure which layover works for us best) and return. I’ve also seen some mixed business options - economy on the long haul, business from Amsterdam to Tallinn (as an example) that we would have sufficient points for.

Thank you!

Anyone have if having an Amazon account for and for my wife is problematic?
Meaning if there’s a limit per item, Bjying in each account.

Does this go against aeroplan terms?

Flights to Europe with baby in October or November

Hi all,

Located: Toronto

Passengers: 2 adults + 1 baby (6m today)

Aeroplan points: 725k

Avios points: 275k

I was recently approved to take some time off to spend with my wife and baby this fall. We'd like to go to Europe to visit relatives and do some traveling this fall for 4-5 weeks. Im hoping to get some feedback on our plan

We have to visit the UK for family, and are flexible afterwards. I'm leaning towards frankfurt for cheap flights to/from Toronto, but open to suggestions

As of now we are thinking of flying PE with infant in lap to London. Then I'd book return PE refundable frankfurt to Toronto.

The goal would be to hopefully snag business class return Frankfurt to Toronto. I would then cancel the refundable flights

We're getting rinsed on the flight to UK, but expected it due to timing and how popular Toronto to London is. PE is 95k + $80 per adult.

FRA to YYZ PE refundable is 107k + $200 per adult

I'd use Avios to fly within Europe

Question for the pros here:

-does Lufthansa still release tickets close to departure? Ive tested it in the past and it worked, but haven't been able to find anything when testing it today

-is there a more optimal route or redemption strategy?

-do any other airlines release last minute tickets? I've been playing around with Zurich to Toronto but it seems quite expensive

-is redemption within Europe good for Aeroplan? If so, then maybe I'd use Avios to fly Toronto to London

-booking a ticket for infant in seat costs the same as an adult in terms of points. Has anyone been able to call in and get it reduces similar to how a cash fare is lower?

Thanks in advance

Checked in, but want to add bags - TD areoplan holder

I have a flight coming up tomorrow, so I checked in, at the time I didn’t need a checked in bag so I didn’t select checked in bag. But now I decided to check in a bag. I went back to my check in and selected add bags. But it wanted to charge me for the bag. I am a TD Aeroplan cc holder, so I knew the card included the 1st check in per person free.

After reading this subreddit, I realized I had to link my cc to my aeroplan profile. I went a head and added the cc to my aeroplan profile and now see it is a “linked” cc. I went back to check in and tried to add my bags (both my wife and I) but it still wanted to charge me.

Is it that charge gets taken off only during the initial checking? Can I add my bags at the kisosks or do I have to see an agent (which usually means long lines). Also my flight is an AC flight, but I did book via third party and not directly on aircanada.com

Keep chasing 25k SQC after 100k EDQ?

Sanity check here - just confirmed I have 25k status for 2027 after getting the 100k EDQ from everyday spend. I currently have about 16k in SQC and can get to the 25k max within the next few months.

But after getting the milestone benefit at 20k SQC, is there any point to keep going? I don’t do many paid fares in the year so I don’t think I’d be able to get to 35k status. Should I just focus on my other loyalty cards (ie Amex MR) as soon as I reach the 20k milestone benefit?

One time credit from Bell for Linking Aeroplan account to it

Just saw this deal for linking your Aeroplan account with your Bell account.

"you’ll earn 100 Aeroplan points, get up to 1,000 SQC*, and receive a $20 Air Canada flight credit when you link for the first time"

So if we do this and the Hyatt one, is that $40 credits for one year?

Air Canada screwed up my itinerary

This is a bit complicated, so I'll try to explain it as clearly as I can.

My 10 y/o son and I are traveling together on a trip from Vancouver to Amsterdam via Montreal (on August 7th, this leg had already occurred) returning from Lisbon to Vancouver via Toronto (this leg is to come). We booked on Aeroplan points, I have SE status and quite a few unused eupgrades so I booked us into premium economy with the hope of being upgraded.

Several days before our outbound flights we received confirmation that the Montreal to Amsterdam leg cleared for the upgrade. Great. On the day of the flight, prior to boarding, one upgrade became available from Vancouver to Montreal. I gave this to my son so he could sit with his mom (traveling on a different itinerary who was already seated in business).

Here's the problem: when only one upgrade became available, they split my son's and my single itinerary into two (without informing us this would happen) which has totally screwed up our future flights.

My son, who has no status, is now on an upgrade list on a separate itinerary from mine on the return legs. This means he essentially has no chance of being upgraded while I have a good shot. Also, I believe because of his lack of status there's also a cash adder required in addition to the eupgrades, although that's moot because he won't be upgraded without having status.

What can be done to have Air Canada fix a situation of their own creation? I'd like to go back to our original situation of having the same booking itinerary where his upgrade chances are linked to my status.

Edit: Yes, I have called the concierge line. I also used the priority email in case the first agent was misinformed. They've been courteous, but ultimately unhelpful. They have told me that a split itinerary cannot be rejoined, but if I want I can cancel my itinerary and rebook which is obviously not a risk worth taking already being in Europe. I don't want to be stranded. They also told me they would have to charge me a booking fee for them to do it over the phone, which I thought was salt in the wound.
