Sometimes it's like I'm back in that foxhole, man

Sorting through some old magazines and found this in July '98 (British) Cosmo. Thought it was quite interesting given how venerable they are meant to be now.

I have been using this watch face and quite like it BUT I do not understand why the line underneath the time changes in thickness through the day. I can't seem to fathom the logic and it's beginning to get to me 😆
