Moving back home after uni.. HELP!

Hi!

I’m in my mid to late twenties, just finished medical school & am moving back home (to London).

I will be contributing by paying rent (slightly lower than market value), but still significant enough to help my mum who’s now a single parent , I have 2 siblings who are 17 & 18. I’ll be working full time & am moving home to save up for about 2 years.

I’m nervous to move back because I’ve done 8 years of uni in total, and have gotten used to living out.

Does anyone have any advice on how to go about ensuring I maintain as much of my independence as possible??

Even things such as food shopping, cooking dinner, chores etc - what’s the best way to go about it?

I was thinking I’d be happy to cook dinner 2x a week ( & we plan ahead and do the food shopping together for those meals) but then to do my food shopping separate otherwise? Will do my own laundry, and I wanted to make a cleaning rota…

Also, I’m the first born daughter who grew up carrying too much responsibility in the home & im conscious of not slipping back into that whilst still being fair and useful at home.

Any thoughts or advice would be much appreciated!

How much rent to pay single mum in London?

Hi guys, I’d appreciate some help on this!

So im a 26F who has just finished medical school and is starting my first actual career job as a resident doctor in August. My salary is £43000 approx.

My mum earns £69500 but I also have 2 younger siblings that are dependents. I have some debt to get out of, I want to save etc and will be living at home.

If the rent being paid is £3,500pcm - what would be a fair contribution from me?

How much rent to pay single parent in London?

Hi guys!

Need some advice please.

I have just finished medical school, starting work as resident doctor this summer in London.

My family dynamic is single mum, 18M brother & 17F sister. We currently live in a 3 bedroom house for £2,500pcm.

With me moving back home, we are trying to find a 4 bedroom house & currently rates are looking to be around £3400.

I should make it clear: my mum has been ready to move for a while and has clear intentions of doing so, but was waiting for me to move back before doing so.

However, £3400 rent payment per month are extremely high, and her salary is £69,500 per annum, but she does have a side hustle that brings in a couple hundred ££ every month.

I want to contribute meaningfully whilst still being able to meet all my goals (& save).

What would be a fair contribution from me? My salary will be about £42k. She won’t give me a number so im trying my best to accommodate both of our needs.

Alternatively, should I suggest she moves to another 3 bedroom house that would be a bit cheaper (not by much without me subsidising), & I live out to not burden her with such costs?
