Breaking into L&D - advice?

Hi all! Would love some real talk advice from pros already working in the area. I am an academic with limited corporate experience that's 10+ years old. My PhD and teaching is in comms, so I have a lot of teaching and development experience in higher ed, but I am hoping to pivot to corporate. I can't stand the higher ed environment and I honestly miss more hands on applied work. I'm having trouble getting hits on my resume, I think it's hard for some managers to see me as a credible choice despite the fact I have framed my resume around every transferable aspect of my work. I am not assuming I am credible director-level L&D roles but I am also overqualified for entry level roles so I am kinda stuck. I was hoping to better understand what some of the best things I can do to help people understand what I can do. I have lots of course design, assessment, facilitation experience but talent development is all essentially in higher ed context and I have limited project management experience in the traditional sense.

-Is there a credential that is foundational or particularly well regarded for mid-level folks?

-What type of baseline portfolio work might hiring managers be expecting to see?

-Any other general advice for how to upskill or things to avoid saying/doing in documents/interviews?

Really appreciate your insights.

Salary negotiation advice

Had a great phone screen and moving forward to interview with the manager I’d report to. I am excited about the role but the scope was hard to determine from the posting and there was no salary band indicated so I went with where I’m aiming for when asked by the recruiter. I think I low balled myself a little. The annoying part is the recruiter said yes that’s right on the middle of our range. Now I’m wondering if I’m offered the role should I negotiate a bit higher than the range I indicated if it’s likely in the budget? It’s a tick below my experience but it’s a better lifestyle fit in several ways and seems like a good opportunity. Thanks in advance.

Wheelchair rental/borrow

Hi all! So looking forward to visiting Galway at the end of June but I am really struggling to find a wheelchair rental for my elderly mom who will join me and has some mobility issues. She is able to walk, just not long distances so I was hoping to get something for exploring around a bit to save her legs. I've inquired at all the websites google has suggested but no luck. Anyone local have suggestions? We are staying right near city center so it can't be too far out unless they deliver and pick up - happy to pay of course. Thanks!
