Vietnamese National Arrested After Bear Spray Incident Forces Closure of Nagoya Post Office
A 22-year-old Vietnamese national has been arrested following a bear spray incident at a post office in Nagoya, Aichi Prefecture, that forced the facility to close and sent five people to hospital.
According to police, Nhat Duy Huynh, a Vietnamese national, is suspected of forcible obstruction of business after allegedly dispersing an unidentified substance at the Nagoya Nagaremachi Post Office in Kanayama, Naka Ward, at around 11:40 a.m. on July 1, 2026.
Authorities believe the substance was bear spray, which caused the post office to suspend operations for the remainder of the day.
Eight people reported feeling unwell, and five people—including the suspect—were transported to hospital. All were conscious, and no life-threatening injuries were reported.
During questioning, Huynh denied the allegation, according to police.
The investigation into the incident is ongoing.
