Chinese Passenger Criticized After Touching Controls Inside Kintetsu Express Driver’s Cabin During Wrong Train Incident in Japan

A Chinese passenger has drawn widespread criticism after posting a video showing himself touching equipment inside the crew cabin of a Kintetsu “Hinotori” limited express train following a boarding mistake.
According to Kintetsu Railway, the passenger mistakenly boarded a limited express train bound for Nagoya instead of traveling to Nara on June 27. To help the family, the train made an unscheduled stop at Yamato-Yagi Station, where they could transfer more easily.
Because there was no suitable place for the passengers to wait before the temporary stop, a conductor allowed the family to wait briefly inside the crew cabin. While the conductor was occupied with operational duties, the passenger was filmed touching a control lever and posing for photos inside the cabin. His young daughter and a woman believed to be his wife also appeared in the video.
The video was later posted on social media by an account identifying itself as being based in Hong Kong, with the family expressing gratitude for the kindness of the train staff.
However, the footage quickly sparked criticism online after viewers pointed out that the passenger had handled equipment inside the crew cabin. The original post was later deleted.
Kintetsu stated that the controls touched by the passenger did not affect train operations, but described the behavior as dangerous and inappropriate. The company also said the conductor did not witness the passenger touching the equipment because he was carrying out safety checks at the time.
Japan’s Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism stated that allowing passengers into a crew cabin is not prohibited by law, but noted that it is generally undesirable because the cabin contains various operational controls.
