I built a free iOS app that scans any restaurant menu and tells you exactly what’s safe for your diet — thought this community might find it useful

Hey everyone — I built DineSure Scanner after getting frustrated trying to navigate restaurant menus with dietary restrictions. Wanted to share it here since this community gets that problem better than anyone.

How it works:

Take a photo of any menu or food label. Set your dietary profile once (Keto, Gluten-Free, Vegan, Low FODMAP, Dairy-Free, Paleo and more). DineSure analyses it and gives you three clear categories:

• ✅ Safe to eat — with a confidence rating and why
• ⚠️ Order with changes — specific modifications to ask for
• ❌ Avoid — clear flag with the reason

No more squinting at ingredients or asking the waiter five times. You get an actionable answer in seconds.

Privacy note — on supported devices the whole analysis runs on-device via Apple Intelligence. Nothing leaves your phone.

It’s completely free to download. Pro tier available for unlimited scans.

Would love to know what dietary needs you’d most want to see prioritised — coeliac-safe filtering and multi-diet stacking (e.g. Keto + Dairy-Free simultaneously) are both on the roadmap.

I built an iOS app that scans restaurant menus and tells you exactly what you can eat based on your diet — DineSure Scanner [v1.1]

Hey r/appledevelopers — solo dev here, just shipped v1.1 of DineSure Scanner and wanted to share it with this community since you’ve all been a big part of my learning journey.

What it does:

You take a photo of any restaurant menu or food label, set your dietary profile (Keto, Gluten-Free, Vegan, Low FODMAP, Paleo, Dairy-Free and more), and DineSure analyses it and returns:

•	✅ Recommended options — safe for your diet with confidence ratings
•	⚠️ Proceed with caution — items that need modification
•	❌ Avoid — clear flags with reasons why

Each result includes an actionable note (e.g. “Order without the toast, ask about sauces”).
What’s new in v1.1:

•	On-device AI analysis via Apple Intelligence — no data sent to the cloud on supported devices (iPad Air M3+)
•	Pro subscription — unlimited scans, no daily cap
•	Improved menu scanning accuracy
•	Meal history with restaurant tagging

Tech stack for the curious:
SwiftUI · Apple Vision Framework (on-device OCR) · Apple Intelligence · Claude API (cloud fallback) · hybrid on-device/cloud pipeline to minimise API costs
It’s a free download with a Pro tier for power users. Would genuinely love feedback from other devs — especially on the hybrid AI pipeline approach and anything you’d do differently.
