For Shopify merchants: are you changing product descriptions for AI shopping, or keeping structured attributes separate?
I've been working through this question on a small Shopify catalog and I'm increasingly convinced that trying to make the product description do both jobs is the wrong approach.
The description still matters because it carries context, positioning and the human explanation of the product. But structured attributes give commerce systems cleaner values for things like material, audience, product type and other product-specific constraints.
So the model I'm leaning toward is: keep the storefront copy written for humans, while completing the structured product layer separately instead of stuffing the description with machine-oriented language.
For anyone working on Shopify catalogs now: have you changed the actual product copy for AI shopping, or are you concentrating on category attributes / structured product data instead? Have you seen any evidence one way or the other?
