Fantasy trilogy set in London

Help me out here, guys! In the mid 1990s I read a trilogy set in modern London where 2 friends encountered a series of strange happenings.

They were friends with an old man who turned out to be Merlin, met someone tunnelling under his house to meet subterranean overlords, and the final book was something about putting barcodes on people’s foreheads?? I can’t remember any details.

I think the title included the name of a region of London but I can’t recall which one. I do know that these were NOT the Deptford Trilogy.

Ring a bell for anyone? It’s been driving me mad for years. Thanks!

Vanishing cheese

This just happened and it makes no sense!

I was making myself some lunch and put 2 slices of bread into the air fryer. I put slices of cheese on both and sprinkled Worcestershire sauce. All good.

5 minutes later I open the drawer and one slice of bread is missing half its cheese. It hasn’t clumped together with the remaining cheese. It’s just not there. It’s not under the slices or anywhere else in the air fryer drawer. I even looked up inside the fryer in case it had somehow flown off the bread!

I absolutely cannot explain it.

Online shopping adding extra items

Has anyone else experienced their online Sainsbury’s shop being delivered with extra items that have been added on?

I keep getting items that aren’t mine in my delivery. I initially assumed these were items from another shopper’s order that had made their way into my delivery by mistake, but when I query them the driver looks them up and confirmed they’re on my order. A couple of times I double checked myself and they were indeed on my order.

But I never ordered them! Often they are things I would never order, so it seems implausible that I am repeatedly adding strange things without noticing!

Is this just me or is the Sainsbury’s app just hallucinating at this point?

US witness protection is just death

I am not from the US so everything I ‘know’ about the Witness Protection programme is just from TV etc, so apologies if it’s inaccurate.

But… what if there is no actual relocation, new name, new job etc? It would be much less hassle to unalive the witnesses, once they’d given testimony in the trial. Then there would be no chance of them being located, and no further costs incurred by the US government.

It would also explain why no-one ever returns from Witness Protection.
