Thinking about renting out a spare bedroom in my home

I can afford my mortgage and bills on my own but having some extra disposable income would be nice. I own a 3 bedroom 2 bath house with access to nice back yard and 2 car garage in central Florida.

I’m thinking of renting out one of my extra bedrooms for about $400/month for some extra side money. The renter would have access to the whole house except my bedroom/bathroom. The whole house would be considered “communal” space.

How difficult is it to find a good roommate that is not a creep? I’m a single young women living alone so I would prefer if my roommate is another woman. I also wouldn’t mind a married couple or someone with a child.

Any tips on how badly this would screw over my taxes as I would be considered a “landlord”? Do I really have to get a lawyer to make a rental agreement or can I make my own rental agreement and have them sign it?

Are the mesh sleeves okay on this shirt?

I’m shopping for internship clothes and I like this top but I’m unsure about the mesh sleeves for an internship. Ignore the pants, this would be worn with black slacks or something.

It’s not the prettiest job but it gets the job done

My bag I’ve been using for all my college books broke at the strap. I thought about getting another one but didn’t want to waste the money. So I busted out my sewing kit for the first time and re attached the strap at the base and fixed a tear in the strap. It’s not perfect but it gets the job done! It feels stronger than the other straps now lol. Maybe I should add some extra thread to the other straps to prevent them from breaking in the future.

How did I do on my first sewing attempt?

My 1 year old room is turning into an older infant room

Currently, I teach 12-18 month olds however my directors have informed me my room will be turning into an older infant room. My older 1 year olds will move up to the next room and I will be getting a few older guys from the infant room.

I have never been an infant teacher before but I do have a lot of experience as a younger 1s teacher. How different are infants from young 1s?

My room is set up for 1 year olds, I don’t have cribs or high chairs, I have cots and tables with box seats low to the ground which have buckles in them.

Will I have to adjust my room schedule to accommodate for infant naps? In the current infant room they just kind of nap whenever they want but that is not practical in a room with no cribs because other children will crawl over to of them when they are lying in a cot. Are older infants capable of sleeping for 2 hours during a set nap time like my 1 year olds are? Or should I split nap time into 2 blocks and have them nap one in the morning and once in the afternoon?

This is a very different change and my room nor I are not prepared for it so any advice from infant teachers is welcomed. I am excited for this change but also want to make sure it goes smoothly

What’s the smarted financial move, streaming services or buying DVDs?

I don’t watch movies often, but when I do it’s a pain to have all the movies I like locked behind several different streaming services. Normally I watch free movies off platforms like YouTube movies, however occasionally I want to watch my favorite Disney/other companies movies that are only available via streaming.

Would it be cheaper in the long run to just buy a 1 month subscription to a single service or collect my favorite movies on DVD so I can watch them whenever I want without having to pay every time?

What is the obsession with middle aged women painting everything white?

I just saw a video of some lady painting her log cabin with white paint…a log cabin. The whole point of a log cabin is its nice wooden look.

My mother is also currently making her husband rip up her wooden floors to replace them with white boards.

Why? Out of all colors, why white? Why not like, a deep chocolate color? A warm reddish brown? Even grey would make a warmer atmosphere.

Is there a way to make rain water collected from your roof safe to drink/water plants?

They sell rain water collection barrels off of Amazon that you can hook up to your gutters and they will catch and hold rain water. I live in a place that gets a lot of rain and am wondering if there is a way to make that water safe to consume/water plants with. I know roofs are sealed with all kinds of chemicals that is not safe to consume but is there a way to filter out those chemicals?

Are there any dark romance books that are actually dark?

I’ve read so many dark romance books where the dark MC always has some kind of redemption ark/ tragic backstory/ redeeming quality. Are there stories out there that are actually dark? As in the dark MC is a crazy bastard with a weakness for their love interest (but that doesn’t mean they are kind to them). Bonus points if their love interest doesn’t end up with the dark MC and has some kind of other satisfying ending.

Books with 1 year olds

I have been doing the same circle time routine with my 1 year old students for months now, which includes reading the same 4 books. My directors have been subtly hinting at wanting me to switch up the books to be more themed with the weeks lesson plan. (Stuff like “weather” “beach” “fish”)

From what I learned in college and what I’ve observed through my own experience, 1 year olds do best with books they are familiar with. They sit, watch, listen, and engage when I read the same 4 books I’ve been reading for months. When I try to introduce new books they are not at all interested and wander away to play with toys, fight with each other about sitting in my lap, and some even cry because they miss their favorite books. (I have one little girl who will ball her eyes out and try to open the closet where our teacher books are kept when she sees me bring out the “wrong” book)

My college classes have taught me that repetition is good for this age. They like the familiarity and know what’s coming next. Several “read” along with me by repeating the words they heard me say over and over again while pointing at the book. This is good for developing early literacy because it’s building language and early recognition that letters on a page actually mean something.

Does anyone else do books with their 1 year old students? Do you switch it up and try to keep with the weekly theme or read the same books over and over again?

Last year I made a post about Lifevac and asked what you would think about having one in your classroom in the event a child starts choking and traditional methods are not working. A lot of people commented that they would not want one because it has not been tested much and not FDA approved. However, recently Lafevac has just been approved by the FDA and I’m wondering if opinions have changed.

Would you want a Lifevac in your classroom in case of a chocking emergency and traditional back blows are not working?

I applied for an invite several days ago and still have heard nothing back. Will it tell me if I am not selected or will it just leave me sitting in false hope?
