>!I'm not going to rehash the story but I want to talk about the Pearl Harbor mission and how 21S probably led to 2B being created (specifically, E types). !<
>!Notably B units did not even exist in this time, as we learned in the end As were basically decommissioned and replaced with Bs. One other thing I noticed was that to our knowledge this S unit was left unchecked by an E. The (fake) Council's mission was probably what Red Girl said, to collect data to continue the war. One of the BIGGEST takeaways I believe the Council got was that they NEED Es alongside every S. !<
>!Think about how much 21S screwed up the mission from the Council's perspective:!<
>!She was smart enough to catch her virus before it took her over and was able to even resist letting the others know obviously. Now 4A did catch on but it was after 21S said she'd hang back, so I think that's a pretty decent hint. Anyways I believe the council didn't send any backup because they knew the squad would have to meet with the resistance who they probably knew had the virus, hoping that a couple teammates would catch it and kill the others in the end and "failing" the mission!<
>!Even after being taken over by machines, she was somehow able to overpower the control and hack into 16G killing both possessed 16G and herself again saving the others. !<
>!Generally she was also obviously the most intelligent and really held the group together even when they were fighting amongst each other. Likely the whole group would've been weaker anyways without her. !<
>!Why is this such a fuck up from the Council's POV? Well the entire squad was supposed to die, and because they didn't, A2 is now on the loose with compromising intel on YoRHa. And wouldn't you know, in the end it is A2 who ends the proxy war after all. !<
>!So the Council likely already knew this was a huge mistake and I believe after this mission their best intel was that they NEEDED E units to keep the S units in check so there'd never be a repeat of what happened. Of course this directly led to the creation of the Es which include 2B.!<
>!The story behind this concert explaining A2's origins was heartbreaking and I think really further fleshed out her character. But I think this also fleshed out the pre-backstory of Automata's other 2 characters explaining the catalyst of 2B's designation's creation as well. I also think it was interesting that all units were female and that 9S of course is male, I haven't cooked this one in my head long enough but that's probably another direct nerf to the S units to get them to fall for the Es and leave them blind with a weak spot like we saw in Automata. !<
Anyways those were just my initial thoughts post-concert, lmk what y'all think!
I moved my Bazzite BC250 over to my 4k TV from my 1440p monitor and instantly noticed decreased performance. This is strange to me because I have resolution forced at 1080p in gamescope settings. I am assuming though that there is something still causing upscaling which is degrading my performance. For example, Descenders gets a locked 60fps at 1080 on my monitor but drops frequently down to 50 at 1080 on my TV. Anyone experience anything similar or have any idea what could be going on? Thanks
First off I want to say none of this is AI, I justike to organize my thoughts in markdown lol
Been a journey! I've built 1 PC myself before, my Fractal Terra in 2024 (7600x 4070S 32gb ddr5), and this is definitely my first time doing anything with 3D printing/CAD and all this tinkering. After about a month the build is complete!
I didn't want to mess with the heatsink unless necessary (my intended games aren't very demanding) so I opted to base my build off of this fan shroud + case combo. However, I also wanted a flex PSU anyways so had to modify the design to fit an apevia 500W. That was my first time ever CADing and I really learned a lot despite my skills definitely being amateur 😁. Because I could shrink the PSU mount the other biggest change was making the case a lot skinnier to better fit with the flex PSU. I also tried making it shorter but unfortunately had to leave the height be as any shorter made the bottom PSU->mobo connection a bit too tight.
So the final build is a slightly edited case from the one linked, but I also had to make some slight fan shroud modifications as well to get everything to fit right. I did a half-assed measurement by hand (not while CADing whoops) and estimate my internal volume to be ~9-9.5L. Not quite as small as I'd like (would need to do the heatsink mod for sure for that) but still smaller volumewise and MUCH lighter than my Fractal Terra
Full parts list:
2x Arctic P12 Pro fans
Steam Deck 512gb m.2 nvme with adapter
Many tiny heatsinks stuck to the back plate
Apevia 500W flex PSU
Printed with petg for both the fan shrouds as well as the case which is screwed together with M4 self tapping screws
Performance-wise I've been impressed! Though I wasn't expecting much TBH lol, I am easy to please here. I was able to get all 40 CUs unlocked on my board and have my OC set to 2ghz max. My furmark temps at 2ghz are toasty, definitely reaching my thermal throttle limit at 85°C but I have yet to hit that in-game, hovering more around 83° in something like Palworld (which hits high 50s to 60 FPS default IIRC settings at 1080p and is running at 2ghz on the gpu). Maybe I'd mess around with undervolting more or rolling it back to 1800mhz or so instead for better temps but all the rest of my games that I play never come close to those temps because they're not maxing the GPU anyways, so I'm fine leaving the current config. Honestly though that's better than I expected palworld to run.
Other games like Descenders iirc occasionally do hit the 2ghz but never sustain it so the temps are fine. Spiderman runs well at times around 60 but definitely has dips/stutters. It's like mid 70s temps for these games. Titles like Dark Souls Remastered and NieR Replicant have run great of course, DS consistently at 60 and replicant mostly 60 with some weirdness down to like 55 at lowest when there are a lot of enemies on screen in big open fields. These titles run at mid 40s to low 50s temps due to me setting a safe point GPU clock at 700mhz, this REALLY helps things stay cool. Not to mention trivial stuff like Celeste, Spelunky HD, and Slay the Spire 2.
The one game I was disappointed in was Nightreign. For whatever reason I already heard elden ring was rough on here but I thought maybe it was the CPU in the open world or something so maybe the smaller world of Nightreign will be better. Nah lowest settings at 1080 doesn't come anywhere close to 60, wasn't a worthwhile experience for me.
Off the top of my head some random thoughts: boot time is my least fav thing about this build lol. Straight up takes like minute or two it feels like though I haven't timed it. Bazzite also had a lot of pain points. Initially I was getting weird white screens which scared me of defective hardware (the screen would do really strange things before being stuck on white) but I soon found out it'd only happen in gamescope mode. I switched my ram allocation from 512mb system ram (which supposedly allows dynamic mode) to a dedicated 4GB and this fixed it. No clue what was going on there, i've just left it alone. The other option I guess was using desktop mode but I didn't want to so it is what it is lol
Gamescope also straight up broke for me once and it'd only boot into desktop mode. I believe I tried reinstalling steam to no avail then had to rebase the os and reinstall steam again to get it to work. Yeah idk random stuff like that with gamescope.
I DID bios flash but did NOT kernel patch, I used the live CU edit which was amazing and super easy to use and doesn't need the kernel patch so I have no plans to do the patch. I'm aware the bios flash isn't even needed anymore but I ran a checksum on my dumped stock OS and it didn't match any of the known values from the GitHub so I flashed anyways just to be safe.
Shader compilation is another pain point, takes a long time and seems to rebuild upon reboot. I just skip it sometimes now, I'm talking like tens of minutes for some games.
After those initial pains though everything's been great, I maybe have still had one or two crashes randomly when starting up games usually but really nothing too crazy. Haven't had any crashes while actually playing games funny enough. System seems to be stable enough so I think my tinkering phase is coming to an end, at least for now! If I wanted to push this thing more then I'd def do the heatsink mod but yeah Ive been playing games like Celeste and Dark Souls, definitely unnecessary for me.
Overall this was really fun though! My total price was somewhere between $300-350 which I thought was pretty great. Bc250 was $170 after tax off AliExpress, m.2 from a friend for $50 (lucky there, holy shit current prices), fans were like $20 total, Psu $50, then some misc stuff like the wifi/bluetooth adapter and I wasn't really counting petg filament but that too. High recommend if you want a pet project but def expect a lot of time to go into researching and messing around and etc. At some point we'll see if I do a case from scratch, I do feel like there's more wasted space I can address, but for now I'm just gonna play some games!! Thanks all for advice/posts in this sub and anything that helped inform the GitHub, really great experience.
Hey I watched the lamer video but this is pretty outside of my wheelhouse, what are the PSUs you can and can't use for the molex mod? The lamer vid showed how to assemble the cables that feed into the board, but what does the other side look like on the PSU? Does this work with apevia 500w for instance? Thanks
Like I get that it kind of is a PS5 but I haven't even heatsink modded, I just have shrouds that route air parallel to the board across the fins and my temps are in the mid 60s locked 60fps with FSR framegen. 40 cu and have set OC to 2100 max*. It's beautiful. My entire build (no case) was $350. The value of this is insanity
* Stop telling me it's not running at 2100 lmfao you can clearly see that on the perf indicators, this is the max stable OC I've been able to achieve in other GPU bound games.
Does anyone have stability issues specifically with gamescope using bazzite? At first I kept getting crashes to a white screen after ~5 min so thought there was a throttling issue, but after checking the temps I saw they were fine. I switched to Desktop and NEVER had this issue come up. I then followed https://docs.bazzite.gg/Installing\_and\_Managing\_Software/ujust/ and ran the fix steam command and THOUGHT I fixed it but sure enough white screen came back, again ONLY in gamescope.
Not sure what else to try at this point, I've already reinstalled the OS using a different physical boot drive and I get the same exact behavior.
Edit: another update, I enabled governer without the OC configuration to at least help the device at rest. The new behavior I see is the system will crash then shortly after black ribbons will shoot across the screen from left to right top to bottom. Then white screen. When that happens the temps are like 61-65 so not even that high ... Is this s dead gpu? 🥲
Hello, got my bc250 yesterday and I've done the following
Successfully flashed the modded bios - made the exact configurations specified in the GitHub (disabling stuff changing buffer size etc)
Reset CMOS
Made a bazzite live (bazzite deck) boot drive, no issues using the boot drive then installing bazzite to my nvme once on desktop
Booted into bazzite from the nvme once removing the USB
However I cannot even really proceed with the bazzite post install setup as after a couple minutes it will have a completely white screen. That's if it even boots at all, sometimes it also just stays on some black screen that looks like it's loading with like an underscore that looks like some typing at the very top left. Everything has worked perfectly so far - I still can boot into bios no problem. I have a couple suspicions:
Borked OS install, maybe worth reinstalling to see if it's okay
Temp issue. Idk how hot other people's boards get but mine seems to be getting very hot. As I can't even really get into OS I haven't been able to temp check. I haven't opened the heatsink but for setup I didn't think this would be an issue, I have the recommended Arctic fans with one sitting on top of the gap between the heatsink and the IO and one sitting perpendicular to the board on the other end. The backplate I noticed was also very hot during the OS install but didn't realize till the end and there were no issues during the install. I've since attached a heatsink to the back and those temps seem to have gotten better but still having the white screen issue.
I hope if it's (2) that the VRAM didn't get messed up during the OS install, I unfortunately didn't realize it was getting very hot until late into the install and had the board lying on my desk so prob didn't help the heat either. But I figured it would've just throttled if that were the issue or that the system would've just crashed during the install. But nope only seems to be an issue since the install.
My next steps are to 3d print the fan shrouds (the ducts for the fans so I don't have to open the heatsink yet) and if that fails I guess it's repaste time. Anyone have any other pointers or suggestions?
edit: Some updates, I found my USB was borked so I tried doing another boot drive this time using the non-live legacy launcher (still Bazzite deck). No white screens during the OS install! This time too I was actually able to log in with Steam and didn't have many issues getting that far. However, I'm seeing the white screen again soon after logging in. So I'm guessing there still are some thermal issues. I'd suspect the VRAM but actually the back is not really hot to touch at all after adding the additional heatsink to the back. The front is reasonably toasty but again I didn't expect to be having such issues when not even playing games. Does this sounds like it needs a repaste then?
Tried searching but couldn't find anything specifically about this. I know that 2230 NVME would use the same port as a 2280 NVME so I know it would work, but are there any weird issues like not being able to secure the drive due to the form factor? Thinking about using a steam deck ssd in the bc 250 but have neither the 250 nor the SSD yet, just planning 😁 thanks!
Anyone playing legacy today? I'm stuck on an objective "defeat the ninjas" at Ra's Al ghul, not sure if it's just me. No ninjas left
