Is the Hilton Aspire card worth it for a Maldives honeymoon? (Points strategy vs. Cash booking)

Hey all! I am considering opening an Amex Hilton Aspire card to help fund our Maldives honeymoon next year.

I’ve done my homework on the Maldives baseline costs: I know about the mandatory seaplane/speedboat transfer fees, and I know these properties aren't all-inclusive, so we will be paying out-of-pocket for food, drinks, and activities.

My goal is to figure out if getting the Aspire makes sense to maximize a stay at a luxury property like the Conrad, Waldorf Astoria, or Amingiri, or if we are better off just booking a different resort entirely with cash.

For those who have done a Maldives trip with the Aspire:

  1. What is the most realistic way to utilize the Sign-Up Bonus (SUB), the Free Night Reward (FNR), and the credits to put a massive dent in the final bill? (e.g., Can you use the $400 resort credits to offset the transfer fees or dining bill by pre-paying?)
  2. Does the automatic Diamond status actually yield any tangible benefits at these specific luxury resorts, or do they completely ignore it for room upgrades?
  3. Knowing how high food costs are, did the free Diamond breakfast end up saving you a significant chunk of money?

Would love to hear your breakdowns on whether stacking a couple of Aspire cards (player 1 and player 2) is the way to go, or if going the cash route elsewhere is less of a headache. Thanks!
