Vegan Cookbook Club (Melbourne, Southside) – 🎅 Christmas in July 🎄

Hi again Melbourne vegans,

Our first two cookbook nights were so much fun, so we're back for round three. This one's special: we're cooking from Plants Only Holidays by Gaz Oakley and turning it into a Christmas in July feast.

Sunday 19 July, arrive from 4pm, sit down to eat at 5pm, hosted at my place in St Kilda. Potluck style, everyone cooks a different recipe from the book and brings it to share. Vegan only, drinks BYO to share. Spots are capped so it stays cosy.

Comment below, or send me a DM, and we can go from there :)

Hoping to see some new faces, along with the old!

Edited to add:

Just to gently address the discussion below. We're a monthly book club and we happily cook from all kinds of cookbooks, including ones by non-vegan authors. Whatever the book, everything we actually make and share is fully vegan.

Last month's book was a good example. Nistisima is a collection of Orthodox Christian fasting food, written by a non-vegan author, but because the fasting tradition cuts out animal products the recipes are naturally vegan. There's a lot of vegan inspiration to be found in non-vegan sources, which makes sense given we live in a mostly non-vegan world.

On Gaz specifically, his stepping away from veganism is very recent news, and neither I nor anyone in our group was aware of it when we chose the book. No drama, we just didn't know.

We're here for good food and good company, and to build a community of vegan friends who love to cook. Everyone vegan or genuinely trying to become vegan is warmly welcomed. 💚🌱

Scrambled (Precision Fermented) Egg whites

Finally got my hands on the Healthier comforts precision fermented egg whites. First experiment was this scrambled egg. It passed the taste from a non-vegan friend. I honestly have forgotten how egg tasted like. It wasn't too far off from the scrambled tofu I make with silken tofu.

I'm pretty excited to explore baking with these egg whites.

Vegan Cookbook Club (Southside) – June 🌱

Hi again vegans of Melbourne!

A few weeks back I posted about starting a vegan cook book club here in the south, based in St Kilda. We had our first one at the end of May and it was such a lovely afternoon, so we're keeping it going monthly.

If you saw that post and were keen but couldn't make the trial run, this one's for you.

Next session is Sunday 28 June. Same easy format: arrive from 4pm, sit down to eat around 5pm. We each cook a recipe or two from the chosen book and bring it along to share.

This month's book is Nistisima by Georgina Hayden, a gorgeous collection of Eastern Mediterranean and Middle Eastern fasting (lent) food that happens to be all naturally vegan.

Pop a comment below if you're keen, then DM me to lock in a spot. I can host 8 to 10 people max, so a message to confirm is essential.

Hope to meet some new faces - and the old ones again!

Vegan Cookbook Club in Melbourne (St Kilda)

I want to meet more vegan friends, I love cooking, and I love tasting new food. So I've decided to organise a cook book club, based in St Kilda.

Who's available for a trial run on Sunday 31st May? If successful, I'll run it every month.

Arrive from 4pm, sit down to eat around 5pm. Location: St Kilda (Plenty of parking very close to mine.)

We'd each cook a recipe or two from Julius Fielder's Naturally Vegan, and bring it over to share. If you don't have access to the book, I'm happy to send photos of a few recipes to help out :)

DM me to book a spot. I can only host 8 to 10 people max, so a message to confirm is essential. Then I will send a link to a recipe sign up sheet.

At the first session, I will have a few other cookbooks for us to explore and pick one for the next session. You can also take photos of selected recipes.

Hi,

I'm a self taught Sri Lanakn artist, living in the west increasingly incorporating traditional Sri Lankan art into my paintings. I'm interested in learning more about traditional motifs, patterns, etc.

Especially interested in books, either Sinhalese, Tamil or English would work.

Please recommend any books/ resources.

Thank you!
