Vegan cheese with protein?

I'm not vegan, because I keep backsliding on cheese. And I don't really like vegan cheeses, because they seem mostly tasteless and, well, sort of cardboard-y. And also they don't seem to have much nutrients in them. Certainly hardly any protein.

Is there a vegan cheese, or equivalent, that has a reasonable amount of protein?

Thanks!

Rice pudding

I've been vegan for 10 years now, and occasionally I miss the dairy versions of some of my favourite foods. Pre-vegan I loved the Aunt Betty's rice pudding, and haven't really looked in to any alternative since. Having just tried the Fancy Plants Silky Pot (YUM!), I'm keen to try the rice pudding too, but don't want to waste money if it's disappointing - like if it's overly sweet, strong coconut oil taste, rice too mushy/gritty etc.

Those of you who are former omni and have tried the Fancy Plants rice pudding... how would you rate it compared to Aunt Betty's (if you ever tried it)? Is it creamy and smooth? How is the sweetness?

Update: Musashi pre workouts are not vegan

Unfortunate since its the cheapest one around at woolies so that's a shame!

Dairy free protein option?

Protein options are pretty easy to find with beans, lentils etc. Etc. But what do you use to replace things like cottage cheese, Greek yoghurt and so on. It’s like every single recipe I find has something like that in it and I’m still yet to find an alternative because for example the alternative of Greek yoghurt is like a coconut yoghurt but that doesn’t have any of the health benefits of the Greek yoghurt so it’s pointless besides the taste

gotta do something about the macro mike bots

I think the macro mike bots are gonna get all the new vegans to waste their money and eventually resent turning cuz its so "expensive" or whatever, this is out of control

Anyone tried PLNT PRTN?

Seems like a wheat version of TVP? I’ve seen it advertised on insta and it’s crazy expensive compared to tofu and TVP but so is like, macro Mike, and sometimes something good is worth it? I am too lazy to make my own seitan and wouldn’t mind another protein option because some days I feel “meh” towards all protein I have available.

Oyster mushrooms in the sandwich press

I went to my local farmers market this morning and spoke to a local mushroom grower. I was looking for lion's mane for a 'steak' replacement, but he convinced me to try cutting oyster mushrooms in half, seasoning (I used salt, paprika and all purpose seasoning), tossing with oil and frying them in a sandwich press so both sides get equally charred.

They were seriously good! Great texture and flavour. Even my wife who is Not Keen on mushrooms had a try and liked it.

If you can get your hands on some oyster mushrooms, give this a go. And if you've got alternate seasoning suggestions let me know!

How good is Mr Charlies!

Had read a few times about Mr Charlies in North America and dreamt of one day trying it. Recently I discovered they had actually opened one in Redfern so made trip.

It’s been a very long time since I ate Maccas but took a family member there who is a more regular consumer and she was blown away! She said she could barely taste the difference.

It’s far from being health food, but I think what they are doing is awesome, and will definitely continue to drop in when I need a nostalgic food fix!

Hopefully it continues to grow.

Heading to Australia for vacation in Feb and looking for recs/suggestions

My family is taking a 2 week trip to Australia in February and we would love to partake of the local food and culture while remaining completely plant-based and as chemical-free as possible. Any recommendations on good places to eat/shop? We are staying in Adelaide for several days and then traveling to the Coober Pedy and Silverton areas.

Making soy yogurt, please help!

I’m hoping someone can help troubleshoot my first attempt at homemade soy yogurt.
Yesterday I tried making soy yogurt in my Breville Fast Slow GO (similar to an Instant Pot).
I used:
• 1 L Vitasoy High Protein soy milk
• 2 generous tablespoons of Aldi coconut yogurt as the starter
• Incubated at 43°C for about 12 to 14 hours
Unfortunately it didn’t thicken at all. It was still basically just soy milk.
I’m wondering if the Aldi coconut yogurt didn’t contain enough live bacteria to get the fermentation going.
For those of you who’ve successfully made soy yogurt:
• Have you used probiotic capsules as your starter? If so, which brand and strain(s) worked?
• If you’ve used a supermarket yogurt as a starter, which one worked well?
• Any other tips for getting a reliable, thick soy yogurt?
I’d really appreciate hearing what’s worked for you. Thanks!
