Forbidden Dress / Blockout Curtain As Blitzclique Sidedeck Options For Dinomorphia?

Forbidden Dress / Blockout Curtain As Blitzclique Sidedeck Options For Dinomorphia?

As a Rexterm-Dinomorphia player a consistent play pattern I have been facing is "Summon Rexterm -> protect Rexterm? Y= Win, N= Lose" and the rise of Blitzclique has me considering proactive protection cards. Are these good options? I know Blitz could just blow these up but I can activate them both in response to fizzle the removal which fizzles the "if destroy" effects and is removal not being used on more important cards. I had also considered Dark Kuriboh but that doesn't have the untargetable of Dress or the battle-protection of Curtain

Also are battle-protection effects any good? Another consistent way I lose with Dinomorphia is just getting direct-attacked and something like Vampire Fraulein seems like a decent way to protect my life points and reduce them when I need to to pump up Kentregina

Am I A Boomer Yelling At Clouds Or Is Blitzclique Kind Of Bullshit?

All of their main cards remove something then summon themselves from hand. Why are there cards that simultanenously act as removal and plus? These cards suck in Advanced because they are far more easily interacted with and extra-locking is a much bigger deal with links but in the context of Genesys even Grain Blitzclique is a MST that summon itself; wtf? There is also no real downside because there's enough redundancy within the archetype that you're probably only summoning from the hand. Also why are all of the points only on the bad spell and worse "boss" monster??? What is going on with Konami. Am I crazy?

Should Evolzar Dolka/Laggia Have Points & What Constitutes 1-Point?

https://preview.redd.it/ad4n0cw0qn8h1.png?width=1626&format=png&auto=webp&s=ea9c3b439262d6f07fb4c0f0ecfce1790ce67b37

Hello everyone, hope you're doing well~

The more I play Genesys as a Dinomorphia OTP the more a specific situation occurs: every time I resolve either Dolkka and/or Laggia my opponent will usually say to some extent, "That shit's broken, how can you afford that with Rexterm?" then gets visibly upset when I say they're both 0 points. The same thing occurs with Lord of the Heavenly Prison, Eradicator Epidemic Virus, Wannabee, Pot of Duality... the list goes on. My question then is such: Do these cards require points? What is the baseline for a single point?

I've talked about my thoughts on the Genesys points list already in a previous post but in it I detail three reasons why cards get pointed/banned: power level, play rate, and play patterns. I would argue that neither Dolka nor Laggia facilitate bad play patterns as their negates are limited and costly. I would also argue that they definitely not played enough to justify a play rate hit. The only argument then is power level, but what consitutes "just a little too good"? Lars has points because it is a 2-time Omni-negate unlike Laggia's 1 and Dolkka's monster-lock and Lars also isn't Dino-locked. It's also hard to compare to the list when Gameciel is 3 points and Lancea is 1; I'd say Dolkka/Laggia are about as good as Gameciel, maybe, but probably not as good as Lancea.

In my opinion the 1-point "slot" should be reserved for two types of cards: archetypal balancing to spread points among a few cards and not have an archetype's entire points be concentrated in 1 card and allow players to make meaningful deckbuilding choices (AKA Clown Crew Biancaviso) or generic staples (AKA Dark Hole). Evolzar Dolkka/Laggia then are neither generic, being dinosaur-locked, and their archetype already has points with Miscellaneousaurus and Fossil Dig being pointed. If they were to point Dolkka and/or Laggia I would hope they would also unpoint at least Fossil Dig a bit. I think it's important to not view non-generic cards in a vacuum but look at the archetype's, in this case dinosaur's, points as a whole. I'd also then say cards like Heavenly Prison, Wannabee, and EEV are also fine because they are not generically playable and trap-archetypal cards like Trap Holic and Trap Tracks are already pointed. I also wouldn't wack generic consistency cards like Pot of Duality because all that does is make the game more RNG; Konami should instead focus their efforts on removal cards and game-enders.

Let me know what you think and I hope you have a nice day:)

2-2 @ Genesys Locals w/ Dinomorphia

Hello everyone, hope you're doing well!

Last week was my OTS's monthly Genesys Locals. I missed April's and May's event and am over a week late posting about this, but life has been busy. As usual I plan to go over my matches, changes to my deck, and my thoughts. Let me know what you think...

The Event

Round 1 was versus Branded and I went first winning the flip, double loss 1-0 WD. Definitely a winnable match but we took too long reading eachother's cards and went to time. My opponent was a solid 5/10 opponent in terms of sportsmanship but I don't think I was being slow played or sharked, though they definitely did not care at all lol. I also may have overboarded game 2 by playing 2x Alert and 2x Last Hope which is a bit too recursive of a gameplan. The lesson to learn here is to play more so I don't need to read cards as often or flounder my sidedeck'ing.

Round 2 was versus Fish and I went second losing the flip, won 2-1 WLW. Opponent was tilted af and after I told him I was relatively new to YGO they said quote "You shouldn't have gotten into YGO if all you were going to do is floodgate" which is incredibly ironic for someone playing combo. I could tell my opponent was getting audibly heated the second I resolved Rexterm though which was kind of uncomfortable and made me play pretty poorly, I even whoopsies'd my fusion and didn't pitch Diplos which stopped a Therizia float. I also almost lost because I forgot I can't attack Sphere Mode. The lesson to learn here is to better keep my cool and take a breather when necessary so I don't almost lose winnable games.

Round 3 was versus Mimighoul and I went second losing the flip, won 2-0 WW. Very friendly talkative opponent, had a good time and they even conceded instead of double-loss'ing us when I presented a winning board state. I almost lost by overextending into Zeus because I didn't know it could activate its board wipe at quick-effect speed, should have summoned Utopia Lightning to beat out F0 Draco/Zexal so my opponent can't stop my effects while it's in battle, and I should have targeted their field spell before they could activated it at quick-effect speed before open game state. The lesson to learn here is I need to better understand the complex intricacies between cards and get a bit better with sequencing and timing (I had a similar issue last event where I didn't remove Ryzeal Cross during the chain because I misunderstood how the card worked)

Round 4 was versus Kewl Tune and I went first winning the flip, lost 0-2 LL. My opponent was decently friendly and very skilled (had WCQ Regionals Top 4 deckbox). Game 1 my opponent just beat me outright because I soft bricked and the fully outted me with better cards lol. Game 2 I made a big oopsies by grabbing Lava Golem with Pot of Duality to out my opponent's board but forgot Lava Golem is a special summon unlike Sphere Mode's normal summon which lost me the game instantly. The lesson to learn here is that I need to not oopsies that much and do more pre-event practice so the game decisions become second nature.

Overall I went 2-2 for 5th place out of 11/12 people (one person dropped round 2-3) and got 1 OTS 30 participation pack and 1 OTS 30 prize pack (didn't pull anything great).

Changes To My Deck

  • -1 GMX Noma, -1 GMX Allos, +1 Traptantalizing Tune, +1 Evilswarm Exciton Knight
    • The GMX package honestly wasn't that good. I lost more games during my testing drawing Noma at a bad time than I won bringing Rexterm out of banishment. The entire point of the package was to be used was to be used as a recursive engine to help stick Rexterm and it's pretty good at that. Unfortunately, games of Genesys are still only 3-4 turns and if I start the game with Noma summoning Allos and then doing nothing because there's nothing to revive, I probably lose that game. The risk of the Noma/Allos package bricking my turn 1 is not worth the benefit of reviving a Rexterm and probably won't be unless this format slows down a lot. I could go harder into GMX and do a true Dinomorphia/GMX hybrid build but during my testing the flat damage costs of GMX's effects kills me more often than it helps.
    • Traptantalizing was added back to a 3x to help with consistency and Exciton Knight is just a good card for outting bad board states.
  • -1 Stealthbergia, -1 Ra, -1 (sidedeck) Final Bringer, +1 Utopia, +2 Numbers Last Hope
    • Numbers Last Hope has kind of been the shit for me. Consistently a play pattern that I have been in is "do Dinomorphia thing during opponent's turn, opponent kills dinosaurs but can't kill me, opponent passes but my dinosaurs are dead so I basically just pass, then I lose". Last Hope lets me fix that board state problem by letting me get to Utopia Prime or Utopia Lightning with one card who can usually single handedly win me a game or break a board. This card is very good and its "cost" is upside for Dinomorphia
    • I trimmed Stealthbergia because overall Dinomorphia only has enough time to resolve 1 Rexterm and 1 Kentregina and maybe an extra fusion monster so the "bonus" 'Bergia rarely if ever mattered.
    • I trimmed Ra because it often bricked my hand and Dinomorphia is not a stall deck like it was when it played Last Turn.
    • The second Final Bringer was moved from the side deck to the main deck
  • -1 Eradicator Epidemic Virus, +1 Final Bringer of the End Times
    • Honestly discovered that I only need to resolve 1 EEV to win and usually can only resolve one EEV in a game. EEV is still good but trying to resolve or play 2 is a bit greedy and Final Bringer gives the deck a much needed non-trap removal card.

Thoughts On Genesys

I posted my thoughts a lot more here and don't see the point in reiterating them again. Overall I quite like this format and it will probably remain my main way of playing YGO for the foreseeable future. I plan to put together Labrynth, as it's what got me started on this recent "taking YGO more seriously" adventure back when TAMA first came out, and maybe the new chess archetype because that seems neat. I love Genesys and I hope it gets better.

Let me know what you think and I hope you have a good day:)

My Thoughts On & Concerns With The Genesys Points Update

Hello everyone, hope you're doing well!

Recently the newest Genesys points update came out. Overall, I think it's a good change; plenty of format warping cards got points and plenty of undeserving cards lost points. I think the format is in a better position now because of this points update than it was without it. However, there are a lot of interesting and potentially concerning choices made with this points update. Choices such as: pointing Gameciel to 3 and not touching any other Kaiju, pointing Interrupted Kaiju Slumber all the way down to 0, and pussyfooting around Dimensional Fissure because it's not played or doing well enough. These choices lead me to question Konami's inherent philosophy and wonder what really constitutes needing points for them. As such I figured I'd share my thoughts and potentially have a discussion about it. Let me know what you think.

Firstly, why should a card get banned, or in this case pointed? I believe it all boils down to three things: power level concerns, playrate concerns, and play pattern concerns. If a card is too powerful games can feel like "nothing matters if I don't resolve or negate X card" which reduces player agency, if cards are played too much then games end up feeling too samey and your four round locals starts to feel like 4 hours of repeating round 1 which repels players from longer events and reduces overall player retention, and if cards have inherently toxic play patterns then even if a game is winnable or won players still feel "cheated" or "scammed". I also believe that the #1 reason why cards get banned boils down to play pattern or play experience concerns; the only reason power level or playrate is a concern at all is because it effects the way the game actually plays out and the way players perceive the game. Overpowered cards lead to overplayed cards which leads to the bad play patterns of "repeating" games. Even if a card isn't broken though, a card that is overrepresented can still create that feeling of "same-ness" and even if a card is barely played at all getting scammed by a toxic cards only needs to happen once to warp someone's perspective of an entire event.

With that said, I'm pretty sure Konami recognizes this fact and there are examples of cards in Genesys that are pointed based on power level, playrate, and play patterns. Pot of Greed is probably a power level ban, Cosmic Cyclone is a playrate ban, and Archlord Kristya is a play pattern ban. My issue then comes with the lack of consistency within these banning philosophies. If something like Kristya is so toxic it needs to be at 100 points why is Konami so hesitant to put Dimensional Fissure any higher, Kristya literally wasn't played at all, and why are generic floodgates like Shadow-Imprisoning Mirror still at 0? Why is Gameciel now at 3 and not 1 like Lancea which is an actual floodgate? Why is Interrupted Kaiju Slumber now at 0 but Dark Hole is still at 1? I don't know, I'm not Konami.

What I do know though is that the point list consistency is very inconsistent. What I would really appreciate is a solid baseline for each of these categories. What is the baseline power level for 1 point? What is the baseline power level for 5, 15, 20, etc? If cards are pointed based on play rate how long until they get un-pointed based on diminishing play rate (Right now the only example of a card really losing points based on play rate is Kaiju Slumber and Forbidden Chalice but those were both pointed as soon as the format came out)? And what determines a "toxic" card?

In my opinion I think the way they handle playrate concerns is kind of fine but poorly communicated. I think Cosmic Cyclone going to 1 is fine actually, but only if it goes back to 0 eventually. Genesys is not truly a retro format so players should expect their decks to ebb and flow as a liquid format that is supposed to mix new and old will need [potentially unnecessary] changes to maintain newness. If it were me though I'd say something like "We're aware Cosmic Cyclone isn't broken so this is only a temporary pointing to keep things fresh" and then give some sort of threshold and timeline. I do think this only works because Cosmic Cyclone can be easily replaced by MST, Twin Twisters, and Double Cyclone and the differences between these four cards can cause actual meta shifts based on which S/T removals are and aren't available at the time. However I think the pointing D.D. Crow or potentially Skull Meister, Lava Golem, and Sphere Mode would be a bad thing because there is no real redundancy to these cards so the effects of their pointing's is far more overt and just reduces players options instead of forcing them to consider slightly different effects.

As for play pattern (IE floodgates); I really wish Konami would stop pussyfooting. As a Dinomorphia player if all Konami cares about is playrate than Rexterm should go to 30~ because it sees no play and that's how they're handling Shifter and Fissure. Obviously, this won't happen and I think letting Rexterm be more or less generically splashable would be a bad thing. Right now Konami has three options: point things purely on power level & playrate, point things purely on play patterns, or point things on power level & playrate then add more if the play patterns are bad. It seems like they've chose the third option but only sometimes. In my opinion they should choose one of the first two: either point cards purely on meta relevance or just overpoint them if they're toxic regardless if they're topping events or not. Dimensional Fissure should be at 30+ minimum because it's toxic or it can stay 10 because it's not warping the format and every other floodgate like Rexterm and Kristya should also go down in points.

And again, please establish a better power level floor and ceiling, it is kind of all over the place what Konami does with cards that aren't toxic nor overplayed but are just strong.

Anyways, those are my thoughts on the Genesys points. I hope you let me know what you think and have a good day:)

Am I Missing Something Or Is Build & Battle The New Best Way To Farm (Better Than Celebrations)

Assuming you at worse 0/5 you get 400 TP (it's cumulative) in rewards and your token costs 600 TP, which means you only need 200 TP in duplicates to break even and everything else opened is just gravy. If you 3/2 you go infinite the prize token. I think this may be the new best way to farm PTCGL assuming you want to actually farm and not just open packs

Is the "...you cannot Special Summon from the Extra Deck for the rest of this turn, except Spellcaster monsters." part of the effect tied to the "If this card is in your hand: You can target 1 face-up monster on the field; Special Summon this card, also that target becomes a Spellcaster monster." part of the effect? Or is it tied to the "The next time that target would be destroyed by card effect this turn, it is not destroyed" part of the effect?

Hello everyone, hope you're doing well!

I saw these new cards during the recent spoiler and have been testing them in my build of Dinomorphia and wanted the community's feedback. Currently I run a 1/1 of Noma/Allos as a small anti-banish / recycling package as my build runs Rexterm and having him get banished or answered really sucks; the battle destruction, potential GY disruption, and grind is just a plus. Some of these new GMX cards have me interested as well though and I figured I'd share.

Selandea is very similar to my Noma/Allos package as a way to revive a Dinosaur but unlike Noma/Allos it doesn't shuffle names, can't revive Rexterm, and, as it's a Lv. 5, it will just rot on the board after being special summoned by its own effect. I am not very high on this card in Dinomorphia but if I ever find myself in need of a Monster Reborn on a stick, this is the best option right now in my opinion.

Suppression Squad is mostly a way to cheese rank 4's. I can normal Therizia then special summon Squad and immediately go into a rank 4 without needing to use Alert or set up special summons. Binning a dino from deck and messing with an opponent's monster type can be useful but most of the time all my names are in the graveyard already, this is just a potential rank 4 cheese card.

INB4 "What about X GMX card you didn't talk about?" I'm not considering any of the actual GMX fusion spells or going heavy into GMX because in my testing all it does is get me killed or be a dead draw after the very first turn. I can't run cards like Velox or Experiment #55 because after I've double-dipped on Frenzy those cards usually kill me dead. I can't run the other cards in archetype like Kimbridge and Comprex than because they rely on those cards being run and cards like Final Experiment and Lab require those cards being run. This is a small package of mostly generic dinosaur support, not a full sub-archetype as going too heavy into GMX usually kills me dead.

Let me know what you think:)
