Hex had his first puppy class last night and he was absolutely wiped out after class but so proud of himself.
Hex has hit a growth spurt and is now mostly gangly legs. 😂 of course we still think he’s adorable but I can’t wait for the rest of his body to catch up.

Our young man has been on diamond naturals large breed puppy since he came home (it’s what his breeder fed and we just stuck with it) but he had never really had solid stool. It’s not diarrhea and he holds it fine but it’s just always quite soft. We’re considering possibly trying a different food to see if that’s his problem. Any recommendations? He’s been tested for possible parasites and otherwise vet tested healthy.

We usually do 15-20 minutes of obedience work and then reward him with a game of fetch. He’s just under 6 months old and has the attention span of a goldfish but this seems to be a good combo to wear him out.
Hex is practicing wearing his shoes on walks and a vest/harness. We’re hoping to train him to be a PTSD service dog for my husband (our Mal/Shepherd whom we lost last year was his previous SD). So we want him used to wearing all the appropriate gear.
Hex’s housemates appreciate the couple of afternoons a week that he goes to daycare and they can just nap all day.
He’s almost 5 months old vs our other 3 dogs being ages 7, 8 and 9 years old.
My boy had his first day of daycare today and he is struggling to stay awake. He only did a half day to get used to all the activity. He did great and absolutely loved it but the sleepies are coming for him now 💤.
Our boy is 16 weeks old today. Caught a rare moment of him being still, resting in the shade while we were grilling for hubby’s birthday this afternoon.
Stare, Play, Nap, Repeat
We lost our girl Henya almost exactly 1 year ago. She was just over 14 years old and passed unexpectedly from a ruptured mass in her abdomen (cancer). She had just been in for her routine vet check 3 month prior and her bloodwork hadn’t shown anything abnormal. K9 Henya was a GSD/Malinois who spent 6 years as an explosives detection dog and did several tours overseas with her prior partner. I had the pleasure of caring for her during all of her down time between tours at the working dog kennels. When she retired she lived with her handler and I moved on to work at a boarding facility, where she boarded and did daycare when he traveled. When her handler moved overseas permanently, he asked my husband and I to take Henya and we didn’t hesitate. She became my husbands shadow and his PTSD service dog. They were inseparable. She retired from official service work at 13 but she still hated to let him out of her sight until her very last moments.
She was truly the most amazing dog I have ever met and I still love to share her with anyone willing to listen.
