Just want to take a moment to congratulate everyone that will be graduating in a few weeks! I’m happy and sad that my time at WLAC is finally coming to an end.

Just thought I would share my recent portability process for those looking to port. I have ported my voucher in the past up and down the Central Valley of California, but have always wanted to live in the LA area. I moved to Sacramento just over 2 years ago when they were absorbing vouchers. I knew moving to Sac, which has expensive rents, would eventually allow me to port to LA. I submitted my port-out request on April 17th and was issued a “port-out” voucher on the 24th. My file was sent to LACDA and received by them on April 27. On May 6th, a worker from LACDA called asking me to supply my ID, SSA card, and recent bank statement. On May 8th I was finally issued my new voucher to use in LA. I’m now applying for places. LACDA is currently billing port-in vouchers. The prior cities I lived in (Stockton, Merced, Bakersfield) were not allowing ports to more expensive areas unless the new PHA is absorbing. Note that many PHA’s require a 30-60 day notice of intent to vacate that must be turned in and signed by your landlord or property manager in order to start the port.

Is anyone taking ADM JUS 001 or any other course with Curtis Walker at ELAC? He didn’t post any assignments or quizzes last week, and nothing so far this week. I’m taking his 8-week course on this final half of the semester. No email response yet. Just a bit worried.

I’ve noticed that LACDA (County of Los Angeles Development Agency) has not updated their payment standards since January 1, 2025. They are well below actual rents and significantly lower than neighboring city-run PHA’s and City of LA PHA. I’m wondering if anyone has information on when LACDA plans to post 2026 payment standards as I’m currently in the process of porting-in.
