When do babies/kids put themselves to sleep?

Hi - so my baby is now 13 months old. I’ve always nursed to sleep and then once we started weaning slowly around 11 months I laid down and cuddled with her (she has a double floor bed).

We still cuddle to her falling asleep every night and every nap. I know that plenty of people will say that their babies have fallen asleep by themselves since 6 months etc. But if you’ve been on the more coddling side of things… when and how did you start trying?

I love our cuddles more than anything as well so I’m not desperate but also would be nice for her to have the skill? Every now and then 30 min in the evening is rough. Also we are now contemplating trying for a second so don’t know what that looks like?

Would love any insight / advice! Thanks :)

Almost 11 month old sleep schedule …. 1 nap crazy idea?

Hi everyone!

I know sleep schedules are a hot topic but looking for some guidance from anyone who’s been here before.

My baby is almost 11 months old and has started fiiiiiighting nap 2. Can I go to 1 nap schedule??

Her schedule is still largely based on wake windows and not fixed usually, but the “normal” looks like:

\- Bedtime: 6:30pm (can vary between 6-7 based on naps)
\- 3 wakes overnight with a quick feed (10:30, 1, 4:30)(breastfeeding and trying to night wean but not really succeeding).
\- Wakes at roughly 6:30am
\- First wake window is about 3hrs rn (could prob start to push a bit)
\- Nap 1: 9:30-10am start. Then sleeps for 1.5hrs on average (sometimes slightly less/more).

Then where things fall apart…
Nap 2 takes ages to try and get to sleep 30-1hr. I’ve tried 3.5hr wake window, tried 4. She’s at daycare x 3 days a week and there she is usually 4-5hrs awake before they get her down. This makes her last nap sometimes starting at 3:30/4pm. Which is then causing bedtime issues. Nap 2 is only ever 20-30 min long (day care and home).

I don’t want to push bedtime any later than 7pm max. (We go to bed at 8 and I need the hr to myself). We are early to bed and early riser household, ideally we keep her at 6:30-6:30 sleeping as long as possible.

Can I drop to 1 nap? Online everything says not ready at 11 months but she seems it? One additional piece of info for months her max amount of sleep time during the day is 2hrs… she just won’t sleep more than that?

Would love any help! Sorry for the long winded message. Thank you!!

Daycare - Dropping my baby off breaks my heart

Hi all,

Just looking for some support as we don’t have a big village here (I’m from overseas). We recently started our baby in day care x 3 days a week. We usually do first nap at home then I drop her off for the rest of the day. I work from home and every time I come home and step back into my office/her playroom it breaks my heart. I WFH full time and went back to work and worked full time and watched her from 5-9 months. She’s now 10.5 months old and has been in day care for 6 weeks and I am hating it. But also reached the point where I wasn’t getting enough work done doing both.

How do you all manage???

Floor bed for 10 month old- best size ?

Hi!

So we did a trial run with a floor bed (just a hard queen spare mattress we had on the floor) last night and it went incredible!! So I’m sold and ready to make the switch.

Looking to buy a proper setup today with EOFY sales…. But unsure about getting a double bed setup or using the existing queen mattress we have? Looks like most places only make up to a double?

Anyone have any experience / suggestions / opinions by any chance?

Or any links to bed frames they used and loved?

Thanks!

10 month old, sleep has fallen apart - move to floor bed?

Hi everyone,

My baby will be 10 months on the 3rd and the last few weeks her sleep has gotten so bad.

It feels like we are back at the 4 month regression phase, waking every 1hr and 20 min overnight. She is back to needing a lot of help to fall asleep as well (nurse, pop her off, cuddle and sway and transfer asleep).

I know they say independent sleep is super important for good sleep… we are trying…. She just is not taking to it well and I really don’t want to do any sleep training involving crying.

She is a super active baby, everyone says she will for sure be walking in a month (cruising along furniture no problem currently). She rolls around quite a bit and hits the sides and the second she wakes up pops up and starts cruising along the crib.

I’m wondering if a full mix up of sleep environment to floor bed could help? I also am trying to wean of breastfeeding and succeeding pretty well during the day but falls apart at night and requires a comfort feed (miniature bc milk supply is def dropping) at night to get back to sleep.

To add, she will not cosleep in our bed, far too interesting and too many distractions.

Has anyone been in similar situation and tried this? Anyone tried the floor bed this early? Would love to hear any and all thoughts, tips or tricks. Any bed frame recommendations?

Weaning from breastfeeding- random rage at partner

Hi, so I’ve slowly been weaning off breastfeeding (baby is currently 9.5 months old). Her formula intake is really started to increase (not been easy) and I can tell my supply is starting to drop.

Lately the smallest most random things my husband does make me see red and triggers this anger in me at him. Over tiny small things that yeah sure are irritating but why are they making me so angry?? Did anyone else experience similar while weaning?

I usually don’t get very annoyed with my husband, we have a great relationship but lately the most random things spike my blood pressure. Would love to know I’m not alone in this hormone rollercoaster.

SAHM - yes or no?

Hi everyone,

So my first baby is about to turn 9 months old. I went back to work (I work full time WFH) when she was 5 months old. She is with me 100% of the time while I work.

Now it’s time for day care for at least 3 days a week, she is supposed to start next week.

I am panicking that this is the wrong decision and I should have just decided to be a SAHM until she goes to school and then go back to work.

Financially we are at a place where we could do that if I wanted to.

If you had the choice, which did you decide and any guidance from someone going through it? Was it hard giving up career for a bit and just being a mom? Was it great being a mom full time and getting to give all the attention to them? Did you loose identity? I could see this so many ways. Would appreciate any advice!

Also as a note - I am still breastfeeding at the moment but do hope to get pregnant again in the next handful of months hopefully.

Hi all, my baby is 8 months old and if I’m being honest, a pretty bad sleeper. Try as I might to get her sleeping better and work on independent sleep etc, she still wakes every 1-3hrs depending overnight.

I just need some hope on the horizon of when does this improve? Please tell me it’s soon? Thank you

Hi, my husband and I have a baby girl that’s 8 months old. It’s becoming glaringly obvious what a difference it makes to have that “village”. We do not and long story short, not an option.

What are the tips and tricks you’ve found that got you through it without the village? Would love all advice! Thank you!!

Hi all,

Just looking for some insight on how you knew if you wanted 2 or 3 kids? We’ve just had our first baby and she’s now 8 months old.

Thinking about the future and what our family looks like and we keep going back and forth between 2 or 3.

2 is very practical, cars, hotels, etc. 3 is more familiar to me in a way because I grew up as 1 of 4.

I ideally want to know going into the next pregnancy so I can enjoy it and enjoy breastfeeding and all the stages knowing it will be the last time, but I just don’t know if it will be or not?

In some ways mentally it would be great to have 1 more and be like that’s great, we’re done. Get through the sleepless nights and nappies etc. But in some ways I worry I would always feel incomplete.

Would love any thoughts you had or how you made the decision! Thank you :)
