I need some advice for dealing with a problem in my band.

My band has been together for 5 years. We started off in college and were one of the bigger bands in our scene. As we aged out of that, we are smaller in our local scene but have no problem getting a crowd of like 20-30 on our own. We were all very good friends, and very productive for most of this time. I love all of these guys but things have been hard lately.

Over the last year, one member (A) has had to move away for work. He is barely within driving distance, and rarely has time to come to anything. He has to be begged to record anything. We have to turn down a significant number of gigs due to his absence. Otherwise, he is a great friend and he is an excellent musician. He doesn’t have the time but does not want to quit the band.

Another member of our band (B) has started a completely one-sided feud with another member’s girlfriend, rarely makes time for anything, and is generally unreliable. His performances lately have been noticeably bad to audiences, even though he is the most capable musician in the group. I get the sense that he think he doesn’t need to practice because he is so talented.

What would you do here? These issues have been making progress impossible for us. Finding replacements for these guys would be the end of our friendships, which I loathe to do.

The 1C Problem

We are likely to see a better Bruins team this coming season. A full season of Hagens, development for Khusy and Minten, and the addition of Peterka are exciting. What the Bruins need to acquire to take the next step is a 1C.

Below I discussed the likelihood of the Bruins acquiring a first line center from each team in the league. I am judging based on the likelihood that a sensible package from the Bruins could acquire each player. If the Bruins would have to move Mac or Pasta, it is probably not sensible.

Let me know what you think. If one of these takes is dumb or I forget anybody, let me know.

Teams A-Z:

•Anaheim: Anaheim has no reason to move Carlsson. 0/10 likelihood.

•Buffalo: Thompson? He is mostly a RW, but an elite player. I don’t see this happening. 0/10 likelihood.

•Calgary: No bonafide 1C.

•Carolina: No reason to move Aho. 0/10 likelihood.

•Chicago: Barring a demand for a trade from Bedard, I don’t think he is going anywhere. 0/10 likelihood.

•Colorado: Mackinnon is staying put. 0/10 likelihood.

•Columbus: These guys should not move Fantilli, but he is a dream acquisition of mine. If Werenski walks, there is definitely a path back to a rebuild for CBJ, but I don’t see any reason to move this guy. 1/10 likelihood.

•Dallas: Dallas are interesting because they are one of the few teams with two 1C in my opinion. Hintz and Johnston. There is also some turmoil there with Robertson, potentially warranting a trade if they want to keep him. I think the likely cap dump is Seguin, but a man can dream. 1/10 likelihood.

•Detroit: Larkin wants out of Detroit. He would have to want to become a Bruin, and Sweeney would have to outbid other teams. I don’t think the Bruins are the team to win him over a team like Minnesota. Definitely a possibility though. 5/10 likelihood

•Edmonton: Obviously, McDavid and Draisaitl are going nowhere until at least after this season. If Edmonton has another disappointing season though, McDavid is probably out the door. I don’t see Boston as a prime destination for either player, should they want out of Edmonton, though it is possible. 1/10 likelihood

•Florida. Barkov is not going anywhere. 0/10

•LA: Don’t have a bonafide 1C, but Byfield has the potential. He is so young that even if they rebuild, he is probably safe. 1/10 likelihood.

•Minnesota: Minnie’s best center is Eriksson Ek. He isn’t going anywhere without a great center coming back. 0/10 likelihood.

•Montreal: Suzuki. Hell would freeze over before they let this guy go, especially to the Bruins. Another dream acquisition. -1000/10 likelihood.

•Nashville: ROR could move, but he is a 2C at best now, and old. This doesn’t solve our problems. 2/10 likelihood.

•NJ: These guys also have two 1C. Hughes and Hischier. I don’t see NJ willingly moving on from these guys. Very likely that Jack walks to FA to play with his brother, and not to come here. 1/10

•Islanders: Horvat. Possible if they regress this year that he could be on the move, but I don’t think they are trying to get worse. 2/10

•Rangers: Is Zibanejad still a 1C? Is Miller? These guys could be on the move, but they are not what the Bruins are looking for. Too streaky, too old, and too locker-room toxic. 0/10

•Ottawa: With our growing collection of Germans, Stutzle is appealing. A bad couple of seasons for Ottawa and I could see him on the move. As of now, you’d have to pry him from Andlauer’s cold dead hands. 2/10

•Philly: No 1C.

•Penguins: We don’t even have to talk about this lol. 0/10

•San Jose: Literally never happening. 0/10

•Seattle: Beniers is a borderline 1C, but I’ve always thought he has the skill set. It would take a ridiculous package, but these guys really need a shakeup. 2/10

•St Louis: Who fucking knows with St Louis players. They’ve moved on from Kyrou, yet moved assets out to pick up Brandon Carlo. I don’t know what they’re doing. Could Robert Thomas be on the move? He should. The package would be there, I’m sure. 3/10?

•Tampa: JBB would be insane to move Point, or Cirelli right now. 0/10

•Toronto: Reports were that Matthews was unsure about returning to Toronto this season. That is a big deal. Since then, they’ve acquired Raddysh and McKenna, who will both make his life easier. I can see him on the move, but it will take a big setback season for Toronto to get him out the door.

•Utah: No bonafide 1C right now. I like Cooley though.

•Vancouver: EP40. Elias Pettersson. He was an animal a couple years ago, and has fallen off. He seems like the type of player that could thrive with a new environment, and especially with Pasta. His contract becomes more palatable with time, but he is still a big risk. I could see this happening. 6/10

•Vegas: Eichel is a hometown kid, but he just re-signed with the Knights. They aren’t afraid to ship guys out, but there’s no reason for that with Eichel. 0/10

•Washington: I love Strome. Washington would be insane to move him. 0/10.

•Winnipeg: If Hellebuyck leaves, I think all bets are off for Winnipeg. Schiefele is a great player, but he is on the wrong side of 30. Not a long term fix. 2/10

Again, please let me know what you guys think! Larkin or Pettersson in a Bruins uniform would be weird, but I welcome it.

JJ Peterka scored 68 points in the 2024-25 season. David Pastrnak is the only Bruins’ draft selection in the last 15 years to have a more productive single season.

I was initially taken aback by the cost for Peterka. Looked into how often the Bruins have been able to develop a 68 point scorer. And, yeah, it’s not often.

This isn’t the most fair stat, since performance for defensemen and goaltenders is not measured by points, and many Bruins picks have been traded or been late in the draft order. Nonetheless, I thought this was interesting. The chance the Bruins turned either of those picks into a player of JJ’s caliber are slim at best.

(Also Tyler Seguin (drafted 16 yrs ago) has had better seasons, to be fair)

Some questions about the post-XY English releases.

Hey everybody. I recently started reading the manga after being a Pokemon fan for my whole life. Really loving it. I’m up to XY now, and I have some questions about how to read the series after this point.

  1. Are all of the chapters of ORAS covered in the 2 English volumes that have been released, or do I need to get some of the mini-volumes to finish off that arc?

  2. Is it worth buying the mini-volumes of Sun&Moon and onward, or do you anticipate the regular volumes being released shortly?

I am not super interested in the mini-volumes, but will probably buy them if it’s going to be years before the regular volumes are available. Thank you!
