I'm afraid I have a new addiction
Huge thanks to the work u/el-jimador for the hard work he put into the packager project as well as the cover templates. I modified his original blu-ray template to fit regular DVD cases.

I got this printer from my grandpa. He'd had some trouble with it and at one point it was considered "broken," but I got it working again with a driver update. I'd like to keep using it for small hobby projects, because the printer has a lot of cool possibilities like printing on discs.
The issue I'm running into is that print quality is inconsistent in the exact same spot every time. I already did a deep clean and a few normal clean cycles before printing anything. After that I printed one disc that came out mostly sharp, but with a noticeable blurry/wavy area on the left side. Then I did a manual printhead alignment and printed another disc, but that one actually came out worse overall, with the logo that was nice and sharp on the first disc also being fuzzy. On top of that, the same left-side issue was there in exactly the same spot. Here is also a nozzle test.
Canon support seems to think it's the third party ink or the nozzle, but I'm not really convinced. Has anyone seen this before? What could this be and how do I fix it?
Currently I am trying to make a digital back-up of my physical collection so I don't have to wear down the discs and cases whenever I want to play them. This also allows me to check whether discs are 100% functional. Everything ripped nicely on a Wii with either USBLoaderGX or CleanRip, except for 3.
Eventually, after some trial and error, Mario Smash Football and Resident Evil 0 succesfully ripped, but Metroid Prime 2 Echoes keeps giving me issues and consistently fails at the very start or 38% in. Playing the disc normally also gave me trouble, with the Wii getting as far as the end of the opening cutscene, before you take control of Samus. My original GameCube got stuck at the menu, before throwing a read error.
Because the back of the disc looked absolutely fine - other discs had far worse damage and could be read without any issues - I started looking online what the issue could be and saw you could hold it to a bright light and check the data layer. I found a scratch which corrosponded with a scratch on the top that doesn't look deep at all, I can't even feel it with my nail.
Could this be the issue that's preventing the consoles from reading it properly? And why did Mario Smash Football and Resident Evil 0 give the same read errors but eventually ripped successfully? I'd love to hear from you guys!

I recently took my GameCube collection out of storage. It had been in a cardboard box in the attic for several years but I noticed that some of the cases have gone bad. Not the black plastic but the thin plastic the artwork is behind. It's gone opaque and shows cracks, when you slightly touch it, it just disintegrated.
Now some of these are likely beyond saving so I'll have to get new cases if I want them to look nice again. Does anyone know what could've caused this? The only thing I can think of is that the attic was too dry or too hot in summer which made the plastic degrade like this.
