Elektronika MC 0511

My wife brought me a gift from Russia. Brand new Elektronika MC 0511, built in 1991. 192kb RAM and 32kb ROM. It requires an unusual 42 volts direct current which turns into 5v, -5v and 12v which I will have to work on to convert it to 110v AC. Not sure if it works though. Will see soon :)

Question about AR-15 stock position

Hi dear community, I've bought my Zion-15 recently. Haven't shot it yet (waiting for my classes on Aug 22). When I try to hold it and use the iron sights I have to tilt my head and the charging handle is too close to my nose. I guess when the FFL guys looked at me ( I'm a micro man 5'8") they decided to collapse the stock and bolted it like this.

Should I go back to FFL and ask them to re-adjust the length (they will have to drill another hole in the stock etc) before my classes or I better go the classes and see what the instructor advises to do ?

(This question is probably silly but I don't know what people usually do with these fixed stocks which is illegal to adjust without visiting an FFL. I incline to wait for my classes hoping the instructor advises on the stock length and even if classes experience is totally ruined by this stock length I can always re-take the same classes again after FFL fixes the lenght. Yeah waste of money though.)

P.S. this is just a hobby, so not like my life depends on this stock position ...yet

Edited: typos

Update: I got this sorted out. FFL helped. Appeared to be very simple. No new holes etc. Took a minute or two. All good. Now my stock is fully extended and I love it.

Accidental Venus Flytrap owner

I’m not good at growing plants (I never had any plants myself). I had no idea what it is. Bought them on impulse back in January in Jersey City’s BJs. Of course, the maintenance instructions were all wrong and I nearly killed these two poor fellas :( then I learned about distilled water and proper soil. Ordered a pot and a soil. Moved them both to the new pot. Bought a “daylight” lamp, set it on timer. They survived through winter. Somehow managed through spring. One of them even blossomed in March and then was nearly dead after that until mid of June.
I 3d printed a watering tray for them and they look like they are growing right now.

The one which blossomed before is back from dead and sprouting leaves without cilia (I guess this is the right term).
I’m still learning , reading a lot of contradicting materials:

  • to hibernate or not to hibernate
  • to keep water in their tray all the time or not to

I hope they survive this year. I promised myself to never ever buy any plant (and not only plants :)) on impulse.

Edited: typos (English is my second language) and formatting

Commodore +4 modern games are quite good!

Hi guys, I've been testing an SD2IEC that I recently ordered from Germany. I checked out a couple of modern C+4 game demos, and surprisingly, they are quite good! I didn't expect this from Commodore's "business" machine :) Just wanted to share my video featuring a couple of them. This isn't a professional YouTuber video—it's just for anyone who wants a quick glimpse of what these modern C+4 games look like!

Canceling LoseIt! premium trial before they charge you

Just in case somebody is desperate to cancel their Trial before actually paying for the whole year.

In my case I used my apple account for the trial subscription and then when I decided i don't need it I suddenly realized that the subscription is not showing up in my Apple account.

Steps:

  1. freak out a bit and get angry
  2. look in your email inbox (where apple usually sends their emails to, in my case it was gmail) and look for an email from LoseIt with subj "You started a free trial of Lose It! Premium"
  3. in that email there is a link to the subscription management on their site
  4. I didn't have any account with them, so I had to use that email address they used in the email's "to" field. In my case it was apple's weird autogenerated email address like "blahblahblah at privaterelay.appleid.com" ! (still it got delivered to my google account somehow).
    • Added: actually the same weird email is showing in the premium account settings in the mobile LoseIt app itself.
  5. I clicked on the link in the email and got to the login page where I clicked "forgot your password" and then entered that bloody weird email.
  6. I got the reset link emailed to me
  7. reset link worked and I got to my account on their portal where I got to click "cancel subscription"

Neither their help nor FAQs not even their chat bot mention this convoluted approach. They all repeat how to cancel the existing subscription when you've already paid for a year !

I'm sure this is done intentionally.

Hope the above saves somebody's time

Thank you

Just wanted to share my CRTs collection:

  1. Sony PVM 20M4U (20") which is being used with MisterFPGA all possible cores and most of the games available, but I mostly run NES, NeoGeo, PC Engine, Amiga and Soviet BK-0011M for nostalgia. It was $1000 last year, but I was very keen to have it and I'm glad I bought it here in our subreddit from a very reliable and trustful CRT enthusiast, so this CRT has no flaws.
  2. Samsung SyncMaster 997DF (19") which got Athlon XP (socket A) and i486 dx2 50 MHz machines connected to it via KVM. I got it from Goodwill's online auction two years ago for around $110 as far as I remember (goodwill doesn't keep history for longer than a few months). I got lucky with this one as it got delivered to me in one piece and worked fine (had to thoroughly clean it though and it has some scratches and scuffs on a plastic)
  3. Sony PVM 1342q (13") which is solely for my PC Engine Duo (RGB modded) and sometimes for DVD movies (just for running in background). I got it on eBay 4 years ago for $480 and it got delivered fine. But the frame inside was all rusty and the CRT itself has a very annoying flaw: when it just turned on and still cold the picture shakes occasionally. So the moral: don't buy CRTs on eBay! I 100% recapped it, including the connector's board and the filters even. I re-soldered most of the pots, I replaced the HOT. Still no fix. I haven't given up yet though, as I bought an oscilloscope to try to trace this issue down. Must be one of those transistors in horizontal deflection ... I guess. I must say this CRT is the most useful and fun in my collection :) as trying to fix it I learned a lot about CRTs, how to work on them without killing myself, how to properly use an isolation transformer, how to discharge the tube and PSU's caps etc

I also added a picture with my retro computers collection I connect to either of those PVMs from time to time.

I got couple more CRTs not on these pics because I'm not using them: Sony PVM 8041q with burn-ins (yes ! ebay !) and Memorex Telex 3052 which is in perfect condition ( because I fully recapped it) but I just don't have place for it on my desks (one day it'll reunite with my i486 memorex machine)

P.S. Five CRTs and a fistful of old computers looks like hoarding already so I stopped buying retro stuff, trying to keep what I've got in a working condition.
