I am a complete beginner to Sociology Optional for UPSC and would appreciate guidance from those who have already prepared it or scored well.
My main questions are:
What should be the basic sources for Paper 1 and Paper 2?
Is it necessary to read multiple books, or can I stick to limited sources?
How should I start with sociological thinkers like Marx, Durkheim, and Weber?
What should be the answer-writing strategy for a beginner?
How much time is realistically required to complete the optional once?
Are IGNOU notes sufficient, or should I rely more on standard books?
What should be the sequence of topics for maximum understanding and retention?
My background is non-sociology, and I am looking for a simple, beginner-friendly roadmap with sources and study strategy.
Any advice, booklist, topper suggestions, or mistakes to avoid would be greatly appreciated.

31 F. I am a working aspirant with already in a Government job from 9 AM–5 PM. By the time I get home, I am mentally exhausted and often struggle to concentrate for long hours.
Currently, my preparation is limited to:
• Solving 50 UPSC Prelims MCQs daily
• Writing 2 Mains answers daily
• Reading current affairs whenever possible
The problem is that I am unable to make detailed notes and I cannot study for 6–8 hours like many full-time aspirants. Sometimes I feel guilty and wonder whether I am doing too little.
For those who cleared UPSC (or came close) while working:
Was consistency more important than long study hours?
Is daily MCQ practice + answer writing enough if done seriously?
How did you manage revision with a full-time job?
I would really appreciate honest experiences, especially from working aspirants. I am looking for realistic advice rather than motivational quotes.

Can I just give mocks for UPSC Prelims daily - 50 questions and write 2 answers daily. Will that preparation be enough as I have 9 to 6 job and get exhausted and can’t make notes and concentrate properly. Will it be enough? Please help😭
