Wondering If Anyone Relates

I've been spending the last few years preparing for UPSC while also reading philosophy, especially Jiddu Krishnamurti.

Somewhere along the way, I realized that what interests me most isn't achievement alone, but understanding—of society, of the mind, and of ourselves.

I enjoy conversations that don't revolve around comparison, status, or proving who's right. Quiet people, long pauses, honest questions, and genuine curiosity feel far more meaningful to me than constant noise or small talk.

Outside exam preparation, I find myself listening to k on youtube . Nothing interests me more than watching k and watching myself ( earlier I used to watch web series , movies etc but now all that seems so superficial and childish , i get bored at all this )

Deeply I also see that I am conditioned . I have all the cleverness that a human has in his mind , jealousy, competitiveness, anger , seeking recognition and respect

All this , i have found in myself . But at the same time I see a gap has been generated between my thoughts and my reaction

I can see all these arising in my brain and I see these are taking so much of my energy and trying to make me think and act further. I don't react. I just see . Watch and it just gets normal again

I don't meet many people in everyday life who relate to this way of looking at things, so I thought I'd write here. If Krishnamurti's work has resonated with you—or if you've naturally arrived at a similar outlook—I'd be interested in hearing your perspective.

No expectations, no agenda. Just a conversation between two people who enjoy thinking deeply and value kindness, sincerity, and compassion.

Confused bw Political science (hons) and sociology (hons).

I'm filling my DU CSAS preferences and can't decide between Political Science (Hons.) and Sociology (Hons.). I genuinely enjoy both subjects.

My long-term goal is UPSC CSE and later a master's from JNU.

A few questions:

Which course helps more with UPSC preparation?

Does DU's Political Science syllabus overlap well with CSE?

If I take Sociology (Hons.), is choosing Sociology as my UPSC optional a good idea?

For JNU, which is a better path: M.A. in International Relations or M.A. in Sociology?

Would love to hear from DU/JNU students or UPSC aspirants.

Thanks!

Need help choosing an online UPSC coaching for 2028 attempt

Hi everyone!

I'll be joining my Master's this year, and alongside my degree I want to begin my UPSC preparation. My target attempt is 2028, so I'm hoping to build a strong foundation from the beginning.

The problem is that I'm really confused about which coaching to choose. I'm specifically looking for completely online, live classes because of my Master's schedule. I mainly need coaching for the structure, consistency, and guidance rather than just the study material.

Unfortunately, I don't have the budget to enroll in multiple coachings or go through a trial-and-error process, so I want to make the best decision the first time.

If you've had a good experience with any online coaching, I'd really appreciate your recommendations. Also, if you think it's better to take different coachings for GS, Optional, and CSAT, please let me know which ones you'd recommend and why.

For context, my optional will most likely be Political Science & International Relations (PSIR).

Thanks in advance! Any advice or personal experience would be really helpful.

Not being able to discipline myself and procrastinating a lot. How do you all stay focused ? Need some tips. Also anyone up for studying together to be accountable?

I am having a very reckless routine these days. Did not study for 2 days. Sleeping at around 4am, waking up at 12pm,just wasting time thinking I will start a proper schedule from tomorrow. It just never follows through , making me anxious and overthink. Everything, including my routine is so messed up rn. I am not able to focus because my mind keeps on getting distracted. Ughhh, I just don't know what to do. I am writing this while rotting in bed. Also, anyone up for studying together ? Maybe that might help a bit.

need help with strategy

So, i just graduated this year and now I'm aiming for the 2027 attempt. I had purchased the PW online batch but only done a bit of science and geography. I left the prep midway cuz i had my college examinations. Now i feel like i don't remember anything and feel so lost. Can somebody pls let me know how to pick up the prep from scratch again? Also, do i still have to do NCERTs cuz the online batch teachers said there's no need to refer to any other study material other than the PW study material they provided along with the batch.

Confusion regarding mains 2026

Please mods, do not delete this.

So I am writing my first mains this year, I have notes of almost all subject except sociology, I had already some idea of every subject but not entirely. Now I feel blank, can't recollect anything, everything seems new and I'm also left with full length answer writing, I write few answers but not flts yet and I am very scared about essay.

I think I'm already doomed, anyone appearing for this mains or appeared before, please assess my situation and tell me how badly I'm going to lose it all.

I prepare alone for away from Delhi so have no one to gauge myself with, any objective assessment and suggestions no matter how harsh would help

Anyone up ? Exhausted from studying and it's been a super lonely night, just looking for people to have conversations with

Just got back from library, trying to put myself to sleep but just cannot, I think I have insomnia. This preparation has pushed me into isolation, I cannot text my irl friends, which are very very less lol, and be vulnerable in front of them. So this community is my only hope. If you were lonely too maybe we could just talk ? :))

PS: I am in ORN, if anyone is interested.

Those who have cleared any stage of the exam

What if a person preparing for this exam (or any competitive exam) is not able to improve their concentration and focus ?
What if for 9-10 months before prelims, they have only two options -

  1. Wing it without a schedule, study when they feel like it, best focus and concentration on some days but large gaps between the days they study
  2. Poor focus, wavering mind, mostly passive reading, fighting background thoughts and struggling with drowsiness and distractions through the pages, but keeping at it every single day, completing the syllabus and revising, being consistent every single day.
Following a fixed schedule daily without fail.
Does choosing number 2. increase their chances of clearing in any way? Would you call it "hard work"?

What is this panoti yarr am so done

Thought of plan b as UGC NET JRF ...along with my internship for 2 months and if possible WFH if opportunity comes ( currently in 2nd years of masters would be done in December)

But june paper of ney jrf was so absurd and illogical according to all students and teachers..idk now how would I secure my plan b

Also now that am interning am hardly getting any time to study for upsc or state pcs

I initially thought of focusing masters exam and NET JRF till December and then from jan state(2027)and upsc(2028) would be target along with job

But idk why am feeling sad and heavy as if there no road ahead

Is this the end of affordable alternatives.

Earlier these Telegram resellers were the way one could access the classes affordably,
I get that piracy is wrong but take case of a guy who takes offline batch but after its over, lets say some of his topics are weak, then these were some reliable sources to access without paying lakhs again.
I condemn piracy, but I firmly believe quality education shouldn't be gated behind a permanent paywall for someone who already paid full price once.
I want to know is there any other way to solve these issues, like long term support from coaching after syllabus ends.
Little frustation over this because UPSC coachings are ruthless money making businesses and apart from some, they dont even have quality, People leaving their jobs to join coaching etc.
Ps: New to this sub so forgive me if I made this post and if it's against guidelines

July 4th reflection: Why does India’s IAS still mirror the 1854 imperial model?

As USA(old British colony) mark the day of breaking away from colonial rule, I've been reflecting on a strange irony: our civil service architecture is, in many ways, more "colonial" than the one the British actually left behind.
Why is the IAS still structured as an elite cadre recruited by the Center but paid by the State? I've compared the "Steel Frame" against the UK and Canada's systems to highlight why the "Double Taxation Trap" isn't a bug—it’s a feature of the administrative grid we inherited.
The full audit of our institutional incentives:

Hi everyone,

I'm looking to connect with people who are currently enrolled in the Vision IAS GS Foundation Online batch. I'd love to hear your honest reviews about the coaching and overall experience.

Also, if anyone else is considering joining the online Foundation batches in the coming months, it'd be great to connect!

Thanks!
