Not a Coincidence

“I have read the rules.”

Hi everyone, I have an extremely narcissistic parent (I know it’s a buzzword rn but he truly is) that I unfortunately, live with. For context, my parents are divorced. During the divorce process, he installed a tracking device on my mom’s car which she eventually found (it wasn’t very conspicuous but he concocted some story about how it was something needed for the car). Also for context, his routine is extremely consistent For many years, my siblings and I have had many discussions about how we think there are hidden cameras somewhere in/around our family home.

I have noticed for some time that he will show up at weirdly coincidental times; for example, I leave for work (he leaves the house for a period of time each day as well; again, SUPER predictable routine), but I get off early and come home. Minutes later, he pulls in the driveway, and if I ask what he’s doing back, he’ll say something like “oh I forgot ABC” or some other excuse. There’s been so many odd incidents, it’s hard to put into words. One other thing I’ve noticed is that sometimes he has knowledge of things that he could not possibly know unless something was recording me.

He also loves to put on a big show of how technologically inept he is; asking my sibling that was a computer science major for help, and saying bs like “I’m just not good with this stuff!!” It is extremely theatrical; it makes me sick.

My mom lives near to him, and recently, while I was out of town, I asked if she could go to the house and do something for me (while he wasn’t there of course). Shocker, he shows up within minutes, which really unsettled my mom and made her upset, because she was certain he had left for the day.

Is there some way I can find out if there are listening devices or hidden cams without spending an arm or a leg? I am beyond tired of not only dealing with his abusive, toxic behavior; but also being low-key paranoid that I’m being watched and listened to in my own home. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks y’all.

** One other, less important comment. He is weirdly insistent on my siblings and I being on his cell plan because it “saves him money.” The thing is, we’re all grown and he typically abhors paying for anything for us. I want to get off of his plan but because he’s the administrator, or whatever, my provider won’t even let me out of the contract without his approval. It’s insane. Is there some way for me to leave his plan? I really want to keep my current number. Is his insistence on us staying on his plan just run of the mill controlling behavior or is he somehow gleaning info on us from it?

Sorry for the novel.

Off the Wait List— Background Check Issue?

I was on the waiting list for a few months and recently got off. I submitted my info for the background check and was honest and admitted I got a DWI (almost 6 years ago). Besides that, I’ve had no criminal/traffic violations whatsoever.

The background check came back from Checkr and the result was ‘Consider’. However, on the app, it still says “background check in progress”. I also received an email that said “pre-adverse action notice” but I don’t really understand what that means. Instacart already shipped me the debit card. Has anyone dealt with a situation like this? I have an email from my local “alcohol/safe driving” school (run through my state) stating that I successfully completed the course. Should I email that to instacart or am I doomed? Thanks in advance.

TopBox Question

Question for y’all: I just found this sub + TopBox. I’m a male but I do sometimes use makeup (think concealer/bb cream/ nothing wild), as well as other products that are primarily marketed toward women. The way I look at it, most lotions, toners, serums, shampoos, even some frags, work just as well for dudes. And I’d like to try them! 😂

SO, when answering surveys, what should I put as my gender?

Swan Vase

Anyone recognize this lovely vase? I’m thinking it’s just a capodimonte “style” vase; no discernible makers mark. Regardless, I think it’s a beautiful piece— I’m planning on selling it but I wouldn’t mind if she earned a permanent spot on my caddy corner shelf.

Photo Editing/ Pricing Apps or Tips

I’ve been wanting to seriously dive into reselling for a while, and I reallyyy need to tackle the death pile I’ve built up. My grandparents left me a ton of stuff after they passed, and on top of that I’ve got my own little death pile from thrifting and dumpster diving. Most of it is vintage decor and similar items, but I also have clothes and a random mix of other things.

Are there any apps or programs you all swear by for photographing items and helping with pricing? Ideally I’d love something super simple where I can snap a photo, tap a button, and get a blank background automatically. I’m familiar with Google Lens, eBay comps, and the usual research methods, but sometimes I can’t find the exact item I have. I’m wondering if there’s something a step above that for identifying and pricing items. I’d definitely be willing to pay for a good service, but the cheaper the better.

Also, for clothing, where exactly do you measure different types of garments when listing?

What apps or programs were absolute game changers for y’all?

Attached photos are of an item I’m selling in the format that I’m really looking for.

Best places to source packing materials for lowest cost

Hi everyone,

I’m strongly considering getting started with a Whatnot account. Where do you guys source your packing products from? I’m thinking bubble mailers/ items to prevent breakage etc.
Thanks for your help!
