More money for a diagnosis

Look at this BS message I just got from the service advisor at my local VW service dept.
Took it in because the check engine light came on, plus the EPC light, and when you drive it a while another message saying it wont go past 4000 rpms.
When I took it in they said it would be $150 for the diagnosis. Now they want over $500 for “additional testing”.
In other words, they don’t know a damn thing.
Any advice?

EPC and CEL

Check engine light came on, also EPC. Supposed to be a misfire according to an autozone reading. The check engine light came on and off.
Another mechanic checked it, he changed the spark plugs. 10 minutes after I picked it up, EPC came back on, and another message saying max rpm 4000. Then check engine light came on again.
Called the mechanic, he said the coils could be bad as well.
I went into another forum, they say something about the casing or something like that.
Any advice or similar experience so they don’t charge me more for an unnecessary job?

Still flares after 6 months?

Tested my uric acid back in December. Level was 8.9, clearly above the normal. Ok, decided to start allopurinol. They started me at 100mg. Went to 300mg 2 months later. The flares have multiplied like never before. Before I was getting two or three flares per year. Now I’m getting flares every two weeks since I started Allopurinol, terrible.
End of April I tested my uric acid, it was at 4.4, and a week ago tested it again and went up a little to 5.2.
So I guess in these 5 months since I started it, my uric acid levels have gone down, but my flares have gotten worse. What gives?
I have a pcp who’s a PA, and I suspect he doesn’t know much in depth about the subject. This PA though, ordered more bloodwork to check if I had any other condition, and the labs came back normal. I want to get to the root of this so got an appointment with a rheumatologist but that’s in July.
Going through another flare now, and is one of the worse ones. Can’t even walk.
6 months on Allo, what else can I do? Opinions or similar experiences welcome.
