How many times do we need to have sex to get pregnant??

Hi,

Myself (F30) and my husband (M36) have been trying to concieve since February (loosly) so around 5 months so far.

So far no luck, even though I know its only been 5 months, I just always thought I would get pregnant really quick as I'm quite healthy (career revolves around it). And some of my friends have got pregnant first time.

I had a casual call with a GP today about getting some blood tests as its been a while and I have been low in Vit DM/Iron in the past. He also advised me about getting pregnant, and said that ovulation LH strips are good but not always super accurate

He asked how many times we have sex a month and actually it's only on average 4-5x a month, only ever around my 'ovulation' time, which is when my period tracking app will tell me or/and my LH testing strips start to rise.

He said they (The NHS) recommend to have sex 2-3 days in the month/in my cycle. I actually never knew this but it is on their website!!

I thought whats the point because I wont be ovulating then, but I guess apps/testing strips aren't super reliable, so this helps cover all windows?

Getting some other thoughts, experiences would be very helpful - thank you

Thanks

Update: Also has anyone been on Clomid to help them get pregnant?

New to TTC, woah it's much harder than I thought!!!!

Hi there,

Myself (Women 30) and my husband (36 , 37 next month) have been TTC properly for the last 6 months with no success.

I was on the hormonal combined pill for 2 years and came off it in November 2025. We didn't properly start trying until March but we were on our honeymoon so loosly 'trying'. So we properly started in April, taking supplements, using LH tests around my cycle and with each month I am learning more, testing more, timing sex better.

But again I start my period this month. Which is super regular

My husband and I thought, although its been less than a year, we could get help or some advice as we don't want it to get to over a year with no luck.

We have the NHS here in the UK, but you have to had been trying for at least over a year - 2 years. So we have decided to just say we've been trying for longer than we have, over a year. I have an appointment booked tomorrow I assume to see if I can get some blood tests and hormonal tests. But we are also talking to a few private clinics too to spead testing up

I'm happy to keep trying as I want to believe it'll happen but my husband is worried

Any suggestions or help on why conceiving is so hard! I really thought I would get pregnant straight away! It's also hard to see people around us who are pregnant first time straightaway, trying for a baby or some have been trying for over a year.

I also read that you should try every 2-3 days in your month/cycle and during the 5 day ovulation phase every 1-2 days also. Is this right?

Thanks (new to TTC)
