I'm making a decapitated head for a production of Salomé, and have started with a plaster cast of the actor's face. I was planning to build on it with air dry clay to smooth and make detailed features. I'm wondering what I can put on top to make the whole thing durable/last for many performances?

Really, any advice is helpful! I've made masks and puppets before, but never a full 3D head.
