“Competent” skier wanting to know how to improve technical ability:

Hi all,

I have been skiing every year for the past few years and have full confidence on the slopes - I will pretty much ski any gradient except for serious moguls (Swiss wall!) or if super icy. I did some good off piste in Morzine on my most recent trip.

However, whilst I have built confidence I haven’t necessarily improved my “technical” skills - i.e. carving and general “steez”.

I want to organise a trip where I can really focus and refine my technical ability rather than just more “time on skis” (without focusing on technique). I want to go from somebody who will go anywhere to somebody who is “very good” and can impress friends!

How would you advise going about this?

The Devonshire House Red Wine

Hi, had lunch at the Devonshire and really enjoyed their house red - Touriga Nacional. Does anybody know what exact bottle this is so I can purchase at home?

Help! I cant get on top of my tax affairs as self-employed

All,

I am constantly on the wrong side of the tax man and never have enough money to settle my payments - despite setting aside amounts each month.

Please can others share how they go about setting aside the correct amounts?

I am loathed to pay such amounts when I am trying to scale a business so could quite easily have expenses they will grow the business and reduce my tax liability.

I have read that it's generally considered bad-advice to deliberately spend/invest in the business simply to reduce taxes?

Ultimately, I am at a point where I want to pay myself minimally and start accruing cash within the business for future expansion.

Currently as a sole trader it seems silly to pay 40% on all income received when it could be accruing in a limited company at 19-25%.

I have been told that the whole payments on account system is terrible for sole-traders growing at pace - since you're always "chasing" balancing payments.

I am super deflated by all this - was pleased with the funds that had been accruing in my separate bank account but I now need to pay all of this to HMRC next week.
