Higher rate pension tax relief
I have a workplace pension and a separate sipp I contributed to last tax year.
I am a higher rate earner (40%).
My workplace pension is salary sacrifice so effectively I got the whole 40% sacrifice at source.
But for the sipp I made one payment towards the end of the tax year. I’m awaiting the 20% relief from my sipp provider (from hmrc). When I do receive that I’m planning on using the ‘claim tax relief on your private pension’ back hmrc website to get the extra 20%.
Can anyone tell me does this extra 20% come into my hand or does it get lumped into the sipp pot?
