NJPW G1 Climax 36 - Night 18 Match Results

El Desperado, Konosuke Takeshita, Ryusuke Taguchi & Taichi defeat House Of Torture (DOUKI, Ren Narita, SANADA & SHO)

It was in Ryogoku on August 15, during a match between members of Hontai and HOUSE OF TORTURE, when Shun Skywalker made his shocking appearance.

After a questionable victory and a post match attack on Konosuke Takeshita, HOUSE OF TORTURE looked set to deliver a final blow to the TV Champion. Suddenly Shun Skywalker appeared at ringside.

The former Dragon Gate star made his intentions clear, joining the HOUSE OF TORTURE side and moving against Takeshita. With the numbers game already in H.O.T's favour, Shun's arrival added another dangerous element to the situation.

With Shun Skywalker now seemingly aligned with HOUSE OF TORTURE, the balance of power has shifted once again. What brought Shun to the side of H.O.T, and what does his arrival mean for the future of NJPW?

So the match was whatever but I assume this is setting up a Konosuke Takeshita vs. Shun Skywalker match for the NJPW World TV Title feud which is cool. I know very little about Shun Skywalker but I've seen and heard enough to be interested especially if the alternative was another SANADA match which was what it looked like they were setting up.

Death Riders (Gabe Kidd & Wheeler Yuta) defeat Unbound Co. (Daiki Nagai & Drilla Moloney)

Wheeler Yuta back in NJPW...didn't see that coming. This was a fun but nothing match continuing to set up an eventual IWGP Global Heavyweight Champion match between Gabe and Drilla.

Main event: G1 Climax 36 B Block - Yuya Uemura (4-3) vs Gabe Kidd (5-2)

Singles record: 11-6 Uemura

Our main event of the evening pits the eight point Yuya Uemura in a fight for the top against the 5-2 Gabe Kidd.

Kidd promised before tournament start that he would disrespect NJPW and the country of Japan as a whole 'until someone steps up'. Kidd's record, marked by losses to fellow Brits Drilla Moloney and Callum Newman, has not been spotless, but in Kidd's mind, only reinforces his view that Japan, and NJPW produced talent is 'soft' in comparison to the current IWGP Global heavyweight Champion.

Enter Yuya Uemura. Earlier in the tour, both before and after a hard fought defeat to Drilla Moloney, the Unbound Co. powerhouse showed high respect and shared high praise for Uemura, declaring him 'a modern day Japanese superhero'. One could say that the honour of NJPW, tarnished with every expletive laden mic appeal and dismissive throw of the Global title belt, is in need of just such a superhero tonight. Can Uemura take flight and get a step closer to the final four, or will Kidd be positioned to all but seal his place in the semis by getting to 12 points?

How do you feel about The official/unofficial Death Riders and The (War) Dogs alliance?

These two teams have unofficial and in the case of Gabe Kidd teaming up with each other off and on for at least a year now (since about All In last year for the War Dogs and even longer than that for Kidd). How do you feel about it? Like it, hate it, confused by it, angered by it?

Personally I think it's kind of cool The Dogs aren't completely attached to to The Death Riders and vice versa but will help each other out out from time to time.

Years in the making this one

I do hope they acknowledge the NJPW match in the weeks to come. And by that I mean directly mentioning and using footage of it and not just wink, wink, nudge nudge you know if you know.
