Maryland LLC: I resigned, but I’m worried they never removed me. Could I still be liable?
Hello! I’m located in Maryland.
Last year, I helped start an LLC with three other members. I eventually resigned because I felt the business was not being managed properly. Before leaving, I sent my resignation in both an email and a text message so there would be a clear paper trail documenting my departure.
I’ve recently learned the business is no longer in good standing with the IRS, and I’m concerned they may not have filed whatever paperwork was necessary to reflect that I’m no longer a member.
Could this come back on me in any way? For example, could I be personally liable for tax issues, state filings, or other problems if they never officially updated the records? Does my written resignation help protect me, or should I be taking additional steps to document my departure?
Thanks in advance for any insight.
Is there a need for event management companies?
Hey everyone,
I recently started an LLC for my event management company, and I’m starting to feel a little discouraged about my earning potential in government contracting.
For those of you with experience, are there any niche opportunities within event management that aren’t as obvious? I’m thinking beyond just conferences or meeting planning—areas that might have less competition or are often overlooked.
I’m also starting completely from scratch with no past government contracts, so I’m trying to gauge how realistic this path is. Were you already an established business when you started pursuing government work, or did you build your business through government contracting?
For more context, I’m currently in limbo waiting for my SAM registration to be approved. Once that’s complete, I plan to apply for SBA certifications (including WOSB), so right now I’m trying to use this time as wisely as possible.
I’ve noticed there aren’t many Reddit posts or YouTube channels focused specifically on event management in the government contracting space, so I’d really appreciate any advice, resources, success stories, or lessons learned. If you were starting over today with a brand-new event management company, what would you focus on first?
Thanks in advance!
