Has anyone experienced episodes like this? Doctors thought it was an allergic reaction, but I’m not convinced.
Hi everyone,
I’m a 23 years old female, and I’m trying to find someone who has experienced something similar because I’m honestly confused and a bit scared.
My first episode happened on May 20th around 1 am.
It started suddenly with rapid heartbeat, nausea, dizziness, numbness in my face and neck, a tight feeling in my throat, feeling like it was harder to breathe (but I wasn’t actually choking and I had no swelling or hives)
The episode lasted the entire night until the morning. I went to the ER, where they suspected an allergic reaction. They gave me IV steroids, antihistamines, and fluids. My ECG was normal, and they sent me home with a one week course of desloratadine.
The strange part is that I didn’t feel much better after the treatment. The next day I felt extremely “out of it,” almost like I had a hangover or brain fog, and that feeling lasted for about 3-4days.
Then I was completely fine for a while.
Last week I had another, much milder episode that lasted about 30 minutes, then it went away completely.
A couple of days later I had another severe episode, almost identical to the first one. Again, I felt awful all night and woke up with the same brain fog the next day.
Then the following night, I had another episode, although it wasn’t quite as severe.
A few more details:
I can’t connect the episodes to any specific food.
I eat a pretty normal diet. I do eat snacks and sweets often, but nothing unusual.
I’ve been a smoker for years, but not a chain smoker, 2 or 3 cigarette a day. However I started vaping daily (for about 6 months), although before my most recent episode I hadn’t vaped at all that day. And I never touched it since.
My antihistamine doesn’t seem to make any difference.
Between episodes I mostly feel tired, foggy, and “hungover.”
I’m having blood tests done in a couple of days, but I’m wondering…
Has anyone experienced something like this? If so, what did it turn out to be?
Thank you kindly
