[GameRant] PlayStation Hit With Brutal Community Note

>PlayStation’s decision to end disc production has been met with outrage and disappointment from fans and developers alike. And now, PlayStation is attracting even more criticism, as a community note attached to its disc announcement has highlighted another recent controversy.

>Said community note reads as follows:

>"Digital purchases grant a revocable license to access content, not ownership. Sony recently removed hundreds of purchased StudioCanal movies from libraries due to licensing."

Is this the first time a gaming publisher has been community noted on their official account?

Can we take a second to talk about certain media outlets continuously lying? (Christopher Dring)

It's very well known (and has been admitted quite a few times) that negative Xbox news drives record clicks/ad revenue generation. I mean, I get it. People have to eat and are going to operate in the best interest of their website, integrity and honest journalism aside.

But this is ridiculous. The below isn't even a definitive list but just a few things of the top of my head:

- (Early 2024, I'm sure someone can give me the exact date) Christopher Dring: Microsoft is winding down Game Pass according to sources. This is debunked during the June Showcase that was a Game Pass extravaganza. Also heard from multiple big name publishers at a gaming event that they have no incentive to put their games on Xbox anymore. We have not seen any publishers who historically released Xbox games backtrack from making Xbox versions.

- (July 6th, 2025) Christopher Dring: Game Pass is not profitable, then retracts statement and gives an update 2 days (July 8th) later that it is profitable and he was going off really old information.

- (Today) Christopher Dring: Obsidian is one of the studios set for closure. Hours later, this is defintively debunked by Jason Schreier himself.

- (Today) In the same article with that false claim, Dring claims Asha Sharma is running Xbox like a start-up company and gives the example of them increasing Xbox prices the same day Apple did theirs. The issue here is Sharma had repeatedly said they were losing money on each console sold and she was one of the first to give explicit numbers on the memory price increases for 2026/2027. Also, everyone in the industry is raising prices unanimously.

- (Today) In that same article, Dring claims Xbox employees are telling him there is too much listening to Twitter, giving examples of focusing on Xbox hardware despite next-gen Xbox hardware being confirmed by Sarah Bond/AMD CEO Lisa Su a while back. These same "people" he spoke to claim they have low expectations for Gears E-Day selling Xbox consoles, despite Xbox CSO Matthew Ball saying this is not about selling consoles, acknowledging they will lose game sales in the short term but stating this is for the long term health of the brand.

- (Today) In that same article, Dring claims that one "Xbox Studio boss" personally told him “We’re chasing a declining market with franchises that are past their prime.” Yet ANOTHER studio boss "shrugged" and told him “After Activision, this is Amy [Hood] and Satya [Nadella]’s Xbox now.” Here we have, supposedly, not just one but TWO Xbox Studio heads saying unprofessional statements specifically and solely to Dring?

Going back before 2024 there is considerably more, but I don't mean to inundate everyone to get my point across. Is anyone seeing a pattern here?

[The Game Business] Major games retailer warns there won't be enough Xbox/PS5 consoles for holiday GTA6 demand, told it's due to component shortages

>A major games retailer has warned that there won't be enough consoles to meet demand over the Holiday period.

>Game shops are expecting a surge in interest around PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series S and X when Grand Theft Auto 6 launches on November 19.

>But a senior games buyer, speaking without the permission of his employer, told us: "We've been informed that because of the on-going issues around hardware component availability, we won't be getting the units we want ahead of GTA." He added: "Demand will likely outstrip supply during the year end period."

Digital Foundry: We find it unlikely that GTAVI screenshots are real-time results on PS5, Xbox Series X, or PS5 Pro

>"With such a high level of fidelity on show, then, a question still dangles over which platform is actually being used to generate these shots. To be clear, we find it unlikely that these are real-time results on PS5, Xbox Series X - or in the best case on console, PS5 Pro. We'd like to be pleasantly surprised of course, and this will be firmly answered once it releases. However in many instances the combination of pristine image quality, suggesting a native 4K render (or higher), and inconsistent lighting on foreground characters casts doubt over how feasible it is."
