The news comes after a law was passed in Oregon this year discrediting the use of bite mark analysis in court. Now, the case is headed back to Lane County. Lawsuit targets fencing around Eugene Federal Building

Six plaintiffs are suing the General Services Administration, claiming a new fence at the Eugene Federal Building blocks free speech and accessibility.

"The blocking off of the upper plaza is an ongoing harm to their constitutional right to express themselves under the First Amendment, and to their liberty," the lawsuit said. "The decision to fence off portions of the Federal Free Speech Plaza is preventing and will continue to prevent plaintiffs and others similarly situated from utilizing these traditional public forums for their assembly, speech and protest."

'An equal opportunity racist.' Eugene officer resigns after remarks

Eugene Police Chief Chris Skinner described a former EPD officer as an "equal opportunity racist" after body-worn camera video went viral over the weekend, depicting the officer making racist remarks about black people. Additionally, the department released another video of the officer today. In the video, the officer is driving around in a patrol vehicle listening to an episode of The Megyn Kelly Show discussing the January arrest of Don Lemon, a former CNN host who was arrested in January and charged with civil offenses related to his coverage of an anti-ICE protest at a Minnesota church. The officer, to no one in particular, said, "Just so you know, I'm a supporter of ICE. F--- the Somali and Latino communities. I'm about American communities, I'm about America, son."

The Register-Guard spoke with some folks who worked and volunteered with Cascade Relief Team after their founder was charged with stealing over $800k from wildfire and flood victims in Oregon and tornado survivors in Kentucky. The nonprofit laid off its workforce in 2023, citing its lack of ability to afford payroll. Former workers, suspicious of where the funding went, subsequently filed a complaint with the DOJ out of concern for disaster victims and the funding and support that was promised to them.
