Huge Data Center

“Potential” 1.2 million square foot data center in former Hynix campus will require hundreds of megawatts to operate. Will they provide their own power? Will they pay for the required EWEB upgrades with ongoing maintenance? How will this affect and benefit our community?

I’m a big fan of the Popeye tree on 18th

Every time I drive by the Popeye tree it brings a smile to my landlubber face, a big thank you to whoever is the caretaker of this squint-eyed sailor!

Opinion on N Jefferson St

Hi Eugene, me and my s/o are getting ready to relocate to the area and are looking at a place on N Jefferson St. The area looks nice, but we were wondering if there are any issues around there regarding the unhoused community. Any and all information about the area would be greatly appreciated!

Where can I buy fresh Kataifi in Eugene

I just heard about this pastry that’s something like baklava. It’s called Kataifi. Does anyone know where I can buy it fresh in Eugene?

Update: thanks, I’ve seen them frozen in grocery stores already. Hoping for a fresh made version.

Stray cat?

I saw a orange tabby this morning on Washington Street between 13th and 14th at the house with the giant skeleton in the front yard. It was very skinny and very frail but friendly. I am not sure if it’s a stray or just someone’s old cat. I was on my way to work and didn’t have any way or time to help it. So I am hoping someone here can say that it’s just an old neighborhood cat. If not, hopefully it’s still around when I’m on my way home this afternoon.

5th Street Market

Am I the only person that hates the 5th Street Market area? I refuse to go anywhere inside there. I hate the traffic, I hate the parking, I hate the maze inside the building, I hate that I have to leave a restaurant in the middle of dinner to find a bathroom.

It's like the worst kind of hyper-expensive mall, with the layout of a dirt mall. Why is there a grocery store? Why do I have to take an elevator and walk across the oddly laid out building to find a bathroom that then requires a door code? Who the heck designed this place??

Somewhat fancy place that used to be on Centennial (MLK) in the ‘90s?

It’s driving me crazy. What was the name of that place? I went there before prom.

Rain gear recs

Hey yall! Just moved from Florida and I’m hearing that the rain here will be constant for a majority of the year. In Orlando, we get A LOT of rain, but it’s usually only an hour or two every single afternoon in the summer: it’s easily avoidable. Since I’m biking to campus, I’d like to know your rain gear recs both off and on the bike. What’s ur favorite piece or location to get them from? Thanks in advance

How to report cycling incident

hello!

Im a cyclist in the Eugene area and had a truck deliberately pass closely while laying on the horn, and then proceed to turn around 10 minutes later and yell at my friend and I. we were on Spencer creek road fully in the shoulder of the road, and the road was entirely empty with a dashed yellow line. I have gopro footage of the incident with his license plate

I’m wondering the best way to make a report. Is it even worth it? my thinking is that if/when they do eventually kill a cyclist it will be good to have a report to show some intent.

Since people asked here is the video: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1zORyoGgajikttMQH8pbqs3nNVbqH41kJ/view?usp=sharing

License plate is a blue oregon plate, OQ 7492

Moving to Eugene from London

Hi everyone
Been perusing the subreddit for a few weeks and got a bit of second hand lurking information
But wanted to A; introduce myself and B; ask about various living

I’m going to be starting a post doc at UO on October.
So had a few questions mostly about places to live

  1. Ideally I’d want a 1 or 2 bed in a new-ish apartment complex. Anything that exists that is close to campus? I’ll either get a bike or an electric skateboard (if the roads are suited for that). Realistically don’t want to be more than 10-15mins travel. Budget would be roughly 1500 a month but can stretch to 1800 if something great came along
any rental agents to avoid or approach?

  2. Area wise, I’ve been told to stay away from downtown which is fair enough; what’s the thoughts on west side of Springfield or Amazon?

2.5. If you think I need a car then I’ll probably lease one for a few years and I guess that opens up areas I can live right? I’m not opposed to having a car
And any thoughts of where to get a relatively inexpensive lease?

  1. Gym wise I was thinking of just joining the UO fitness centre as location and price is great, anyone ever used it?

  2. If anyone is around for a few pints in October, let me know!

Thanks so much
And sorry as I’m sure this has been asked a million times but really appreciate the help, I’ve gone through the subreddit but still trying to make sense of it all

Sam

Does anyone play Star Wars Unlimited?

I just moved to town and despite my efforts I can’t find a shop that supports it for weekly/bi-weekly play. I don’t mind driving some distance to play, but I was hoping to find a group close. Any help is appreciated.

Did anyone ask Eugenians if we want to pave Alton Baker and put in a parking lot?

I get that parking is an issue, but does a new parking area for 69 cars need to be paved? Do eleven trees need to be cut down? Article in today's Lookout.
