When will people learn their lesson? (Blue Pool)

It's been less than a week since we saw someone tragically drown out there, and remarkably, no one ever seems to learn their lesson.

I spent about half an hour this afternoon sitting at the top of Blue Pool, just watching the water and vibing. In that time, I watched 3 people jump in from the top of the cliffs. Two of them did okay, but the third one was a different story.

I swear, I thought for sure I had just watched someone jump directly to their death. I could see as they were falling that they had poor form, and were going to hit at a bad angle. Sure enough, they didn't so much "jump" into Blue Pool as "belly flop" into Blue Pool.

They hit hard, and did not surface immediately. My heart dropped, because there was nothing anyone could have done to intervene. The most I had was 60ft of 550 cord to throw, but that's no good to someone who's actively drowning in 35°F water.

Even once they surfaced, they were clearly struggling to move. Fortunately, they made it to the bank, somehow, but it was close.

Seriously, people, please be better. Yes, it's beautiful. Yes, it looks like a perfect swimming hole. But it's a glacially cold, underground-fed lake whose beauty is deceptively deadly.

Bunny on Amazon Trail

I posted this as a comment on another post but it wouldn't allow the video to be posted.

Update on bunny:
My family and I went out yesterday before dusk and we located the bunny! One of our kids spotted it and one of our teenagers got it to eat banana from her hand. We had a small cage and tried to slowly give it banana and we got very close with a group of 3-4 of us and a blanket. We tried but were not able to catch it. We did not chase beyond a few attempts to lead it into the cage and grab it with the blanket. Our teenagers are very gentle and one has educated herself quite a bit about rabbits so we are aware of what to feed them, how to approach, sleep and wake cycles et c. We have also learned more in this process. The kids are invested at this point so we may try going back. If we catch the bunny we may attempt to foster then keep it as a pet or foster for someone else to adopt.
I hope one of us can catch it so this little buddy can be safe!

Heads up: suspicious activity in Hendricks

Just a heads-up for anyone visiting Hendricks Park today.
Around 10:45am in the rhododendron garden, my mom saw an older man (approximately in his 70s) who appeared to have his hand inside his pants and was making movements that made her concerned he may have been m*sturbating. She can’t say for certain what he was doing, but it made me her uncomfortable enough that she left the area. I’d been up in the park 15 minutes prior to her and saw him but didn’t notice THAT.
Just wanted to let others know so they can stay aware of their surroundings, especially if visiting alone or with children. If anyone else witnessed something similar, may report to the non-emergency police line.

Recently relocated and looking for chill water spots to hang not too far from town

Staying in the Santa Clara area. I like to hit water spots to soak and clear my mind. Any recommended spots that are not in the middle of town and super busy? It would mean a lot. Thank you

Free video store library in Eugene

Hey all,

I’m looking to start a free “video store” library here in Eugene. I have a pretty large collection of VHS, DVDs, Blu-rays, and 4K discs that I’d love to share with the community in retro video store cases. I know not everything will make its way back, and that’s totally okay. I work in the home video industry, so I’m always bringing in new titles.

I’ve got almost everything I need to get this off the ground, including a couple of possible locations for it. The one thing I’m missing is… the box!

Does anyone know where I might be able to find an old newspaper or magazine vending box? I’m looking for something like THIS, but I don’t have an extra $500 right now, haha!

Any leads or ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

FYI, the Federal Building has Freedom 250 banners up

It's possible that they might have been up for a while, though I'm not sure (obviously yesterday was the 4th, they would have been put up in preparation for that). Noticed a couple Freedom 250 banners while driving on 6th and high st. It's important to note that Freedom 250 is a celebration of Trump, MAGA, and fascism, not America. America 250 is the non-partisan official organization committee that Trump and his scum overtook.

Obviously the Federal Building is managed by, well, the Federal Government, so it's not surprising. However, it's still a shitty thing to have to see in our community. It's just another entry into the saga that is the Fed Building.

Fuck Trump.

Fun kids chalk art at the Amazon small dogs park

It’s so nice seeing that kids are outside being creative even on a hot day instead of being stuck inside on their devices. I love seeing reminders that our community is alive and enjoying life :)

Transplant, I can't find the beers that I like.

Recently moved to the area and I'm still getting used to how things are done in Oregon. For the life of me, I can not find anywhere that sells Samuel Smith Organic Raspberry or Shiner Bock or anything from New Belgium Brewery.

I'm not hating, I love it here... I just need to get my beer fix. I've combed all the grocery stores, liquor stores and gas stations but they all sell the same things. Where do I go for some variety?

... and don't say "go back to where you came from."

Why are so many cops fat?

I don't think Eugene PD is that bad but we were in the Creswell parade today and Lane County Sheriff Office had a presence. Don't they have any fitness standards? The posse guys were huge!

Do better people

Some fucking douchebag and his gf threw a firecracker on the bike path directly in front of my kid this evening.

I yelled at them and they both yelled at ME like they didn’t just throw a firecracker at a kid on the bike path.

If you that was you and you read this:

Fuck you.
I hope you shit your pants.
I hope you stub your pinky toe daily.
I hope you hit every red light.

Pyre Nashville Chicken

I’m calling you out, Dawg!
I first tried your food years ago and I’ve been wanting more ever since. Every time I come by with my mouth watering the place is boarded up and empty despite the hours posted on your website. Which coincidentally do not line up with business hours posted on Google (only open one day a week?). I have been patient and understanding and ultimately I can exist without hot chicken but I am at my wits end! I used to see posts on this subreddit made by the owner about unforeseen closures and efforts made to be open more consistently, but that account has been largely silent in the last year.

Yes I realize today is July 4th but I’m trying to get some chicken at least a couple times a month.

How may I satisfy my cravings? Dave’s doesn’t count, please, I’ve had my fill.

Found a husky in our yard, 30th & Ferry, near Amazon Dog Park.

Your pup is secured in our yard for now and can chill in a fully fenced kennel overnight.
