Does empathy have a caste?

i’ve seen girls openly post about the creepiest dms they’ve received, and rightly so. but when the same kind of objectification is directed at brahmin girls, why does that concern suddenly disappear? why is there no similar outrage or defence?

why is there such a selective understanding of oppression and discrimination?

you don’t have to agree with brahminism, or with the social history associated with the community, to recognise that individual women are not legitimate targets for caste-based abuse. calling them “noolu”, “p*pathis”, or using similar slurs doesn’t become acceptable simply because the people being targeted belong to a historically privileged caste.

if we’re genuinely against misogyny, harassment and caste discrimination, then that principle shouldn’t change depending on who the target is. criticism of a caste system is one thing; reducing individual women to their caste and dehumanising them because of it is another.

selective empathy is still selective.
