I’ve seen a different type of butterfly mate before but it was much clearer to see they were connected at the ends but these two look like they’re formed together? Do different species do it differently

My Welsh nana recently found the button pictured above in a box of random bits and bobs, has no clue how or where she got it but is convinced it’s an old school button from 1576 AD - is anyone able to tell me anything about it or if this is a date?
