Best pick up and play games for those new to PSVR2
I've owned my PSVR2 for about a year now so thought Id share the games I bought ranked in order of how much I enjoyed them. Most were picked up on sale with at least half off.
I like quick pick up and play games that are easy to get into so adventure games or games that take hours to get to grips with the controls will either be low or missing from the list.
I'm sure many adventures such as Arken Age, Horizon and No Mans Sky deserve a place high on this list but I thought my style of game (either hitting, shooting or driving) would suit many new to and getting to grips with VR.
Gran Turismo - Essential. It's like having a garage full of just about every car in your living room. With a direct drive wheel and haptics it's so realistic and the closest to driving a real race car that I will ever get.
Beat Saber - It's a shame it's no longer supported on PSVR2 but still the best rhythm game.
Compound - 90s style roguelite shooter. Loads of FPS and roguelite games are technically better but this is the one I always return to.
- Pistol Whip. Really fun John Wick reaction shooter where you dodge bullets.
Roboquest VR. Modern roguelite shooter. Brilliant graphics and gameplay. Very addictive but can cause nausea after 30 minutes or so.
Synth Riders. Was my favourite rhythm game at first but beat saber is now the game I return to more often. I find that beat saber has a higher skill ceiling but as a sort of dance game, this gives a better workout.
7. Gazzlers Roguelite where you are sitting on the back of a truck shooting enemies that are chasing you. Best played sitting down
- Light brigade Another very good roguelite shooter but much harder, longer runs. Requires patience and precision.
Runner. Roguelite where you drive a motorbike and shoot enemies at the same time. Best played sitting down.
Zombie land double tap. Another FPS shooter, this time split in to small segments where the aim is to set the fastest time possible.
Max mustard Astro bot style game in vr
Arizona Sunshine 2. Great graphics. Slightly clunky outdated gameplay but still good fun
Arizona Sunshine remake as above
Microsoft flight simulator This game can look amazing with breathtaking scale but also like a blurry unrealistic mess. As long as you manage your expectations, fly in the right areas and at the right height and have a very good wired internet connection it is a wonderful vr flight experience.
Dead Second Time crisis in vr
Vendetta Forever Cross between superhot, zombie land and pistol whip
C Smash. Best racket game on pSVR2
Racket Fury Another good racket game. Looks nicer and feels more realistic than c smash but quite difficult and not many modes.
Rez. Classic space shooter good for a quick 5 minute blast but eye tracking is unreliable.
Undead Citadel. The horde mode makes this for me the best sword / melee combat game I've played on.psvr2.
Zero Caliber vr. Very basic and simplified call of duty style game with campaign, zombies and multiplayer.
Synapse Another roguelite shooter with telekinesis. Would easily be in my top 15 but it's ridiculously short. I read this before buying that it but was still shocked when it abruptly ended after what felt like the opening stage.
Operation wolf Time crisis style shooter. Enjoyable for a quick blast every now and then.
Moss 2. Haven't really got into it yet as it's quite slow paced like a top down Zelda game rather than a 3d platformer but it looks lovely and is one of the more polished PSVR2 games.
Crossfire sierra squad. Another Time crisis style game. It's probably technically better but I preferred the cheaper Dead Second.
Big shots. Another rogue lite shooter similar to Roboquest but this time inside a Mech. It can bring on nausea within minutes so I haven't played it a great deal.
Walkabout Mini golf Feels like real mini golf with amazing courses. Can be hard to get into the right position depending on where the ball goes which can spoil immersion.
Rush Apex Skydiving racing game. Enjoyable racing where you have to take risks and fly close to hazards to gain speed, a bit like the old burnout games. It's quite difficult to graze past the hazards needed to speed up without crashing and the game is a bit slow and boring without these speed boosts.
Gorn 2. Ridiculously over the top fun weapon.combat game.
V Racer. Futuristic motorbike racer. Feels nice but to be honest GT7 with a wheel and haptics feels so much better that Ive only spent a few hours on it and haven't really given this game the chance it probably deserves.
Switchback Sitting down roller coaster shooter. Shooting doesn't feel very weighty or impactful. Get gazzlers or runner first.
Paint the town red. Another weapon.mellee combat game. Cheap and unrealistic but great fun at the same time.
Sweet Surrender. Shooter roguelite similar to compound but no where near as good.
Badminton time. Enjoyable but lots of bugs and dodgy hit detection.
Until you fall. Slightly disappointing rhythm sword game where you have to match the angle on screen in order to block incoming attacks.. I probably haven't given it enough of a chance yet.
Ancient dungeon All the reviews say ignore the graphics on flatscreen as it looks and plays great in vr. They are all lying.
D day Online call of duty style shooter. Very unpolished but often goes on sale for under a pound.
Ragnarock Ok but feels a bit off to me. I never feel like I'm actually hitting a drum which should be achievable with the haptics.
Smash Drums Same problems as Ragnarok, no where near as good as Beat Saber or Synth Riders. They also removed much of the Dlc shortly after launch suggesting that they cut costs by purchasing songs on a very limited short term licence to gain interest and higher review scores.
Creed. Impressive but I'm not fit enough to fully enjoy this. It taught me that it's probably not a good idea to go and start any real fights at my age.
Pavlov Well reviewed and some will love it but too fiddly for me. If you are happy spending hours practicing how to reload each weapon, you'll get much more value out of it. No option to sit down.
Maestro. One of the best reviewed rhythm games but I couldn't get into it.
