My Nano board for study

My Nano board for study

I have a few pedals which I don’t use on my main pedalboard, with 11 pedals.

I wanted something simple and quick to just grab, plug and start studying. For me, a looper with a drum-machine is fundamental for that, since it works like a glorified metronome and it’s just so useful to practise over different harmonies, rhythms, all that jazz.

I could have gone a totally different route, but I think I chose what I found “safest”, most straightforward and (in a good way) generic.

Will use it later on today, but since I know these pedals well, I know what it will sound like.

Back to stock (almost, but better)

Does anybody here remember my saga?

First I installed humbuckers: a DiMarzio The Chopper T and a Seymour Duncan ‘59 (SH1-N), which I loved, but felt like my Tele had lost lots of its character.

My saga involved changing pickguards as well. First, white, which I didn’t like that much, but was the only one available. Then, vintage cream, which I really liked.

But there was something missing. Also, I didn’t love the way my Tele looked.

So, I decided to go back to single-coils but went for an upgrade from the stock Yosemite pickups to the Custom Shop 55/56 pickups.

Wow, I couldn’t be happier. Sounds like a Tele, looks like a Tele (for my taste), but better than before. Less output, the way I found I really liked it.

Nothing to complain about the humbuckers I used. They do sound amazing and the combination is killer. But it wasn’t for me.

Now, I promised myself I won’t change pickups again in the next ten years at least. Same promise I made myself about my Strat with V-Mods II and a Shawbucker.

Best two guitars I’ve ever had by far!

Regret installing humbuckers

I have this Tele Performer I bought a couple of years ago. Amazing guitar, amazing neck. I also love the jumbo frets (though I prefer narrow tall ones).
It came with Yosemite pickups, which I like and sounded louder than the Fat50’s pickups I had in my Strat back then.

However, since I had a Strat with lower output pickups,, sometimes I felt like I needed something more powerful, to play power chords, stuff like that. And that’s why I installed a Seymour Duncan ‘59 and a DiMarzio Chopper T on the bridge.

They sound amazing and do what I expected them to do (though the 59 sounds a bit brighter than I expected). However I catch myself feeling like my Tele has lost lots of character. It sounds like I got stuck between a Tele and a guitar that’s commonly associated with humbuckers (Les Paul, SG, etc. you name it) but I’m neither here nor there.

I’m seriously considering going back to single coils
(perhaps something vintage and very unapologetically Tele-esque). And, maybe in the future, get a guitar that’s classically associated with humbuckers.

Anyone gone through the same kind of situation? What did it feel/sound like to you?

Pickguard Colour

I bought this white SH Pickguard because it was the only one available at the time. But I sometimes think it’s too bright. It was originally black.

So I’ve been thinking of getting another colour pickguard .

Which colour should I go for?

Black
Parchment
Tortoise
