Why did I take this job?

Well I am probably gonna get let go this Friday. I got a job at a small mobile grooming business and I regret taking the job. The only good thing about it now it’s near my house and I save money on gas.

I was told during the interview that I would be doing phone calls and scheduling appointments. Recently, they have been making me do a lot of cleaning labor and I am okay with that.

But now they want me to do payroll. I was excited to do that as I am trying to get an accounting degree. But they just use excel sheets and military time to calculate the hours. I had four hours to learn it And my calculations were so off. And I was so bad at it. I came home crying.

I understand payroll. But the military time feels so inaccurate and I have never used it before. it messed up my calculations. And he didn’t tell me until last minute so I waste hours of work to recalculate everything. And it still wasn’t right.

I don’t know why I took this job. I was so desperate for something but now I hate it so much. I wish I had taken that other job offer I got even though it was in another city.

I will never work for a small business again. I work at one before and it was just like this. The job isn’t what it is advertised and the job duties just keep scaling while payments don’t. There’s no real training. They just expect you to swim and you end up drowning. This is my 2nd month there and I can finally see why they can’t find another office assistant to hire.

That was some of the worst work I have ever submitted it in my life. If they let me go, I will honestly be okay with it. But my god, I wish I had never say yes.

Left 1st Payroll Training Stress

I work as an office assistant for a mobile grooming company. I was only supposed to do phones and scheduling but the manager who does payroll is leaving. Now it’s my new responsibility. I just left my only training and I just want to cry because I left stress rather than confident .

I understand the payroll stuff. The hours, commission, and overtime makes sense for me. The part that is confusing me is verifying gross payments for the groomers. I need it for the commission. The numbers in square don’t match the ones in my excel sheet and it’s so frustrating.

I am getting all of the time cards tomorrow. It’s probably going to take me 1 hrs to do the actual payroll. But the verifying the payments will take me 5 hrs minimum.

I am very stress. I don’t want to get laid off again but the only payroll I have ever done was salary. This company doesn’t use anything but excel to do payroll. I just feel an idiot about to be fired.

If anyone has any advice, please comment.

I have been living at home since I graduated and I honestly can’t stand living with my parents anymore. I got a new job while it’s a nice 5 minutes away from my house, I don’t see myself staying for more than a year. There’s also not a lot of job opportunities here so I think it’s time to officially start planning to move out. Ideally, by the summer of next year. I really want to move to Sacramento, it’s my dream city but it’s 8 hours away from my hometown and family so I will be on my own.

I currently have a little over $12k in savings. This is my emergency fund but I am also flexible on using it to move out. My goal is either save at least the security deposit, insurance, apartment application fees, and first month rents. My guessing is that it will cost around $4k or more. Is that enough? Or I need more? I will only be bring my dog’s crate and my clothes plus some books so I don’t think I need a moving van. I also just need a bed and some plates.

I am obviously going to wait until I get a job offer in Sacramento but I don’t think I will be making over $50k. I am open to having a roommate to save some money. But I am not leaving behind my Golden Retriever. I also don’t have an active credit score; it was 600 last I did a credit loan but I don’t have a credit card.

I guess I am wondering if this moving plan is feasible or not? I have only visited Sacramento. I really like the area but I am not very familiar with the details. If anyone has any advice, I would greatly appreciate it.
