Do mouse/keyboard/headset driver software (e.g. Razer Synapse) increase the risk of anti-cheat bans?

Hi everyone,

I have a question that’s been on my mind for a while.

Many gaming peripherals nowadays come with companion software, such as:

  • Razer Synapse
  • Logitech G HUB
  • SteelSeries GG
  • Corsair iCUE
  • ASUS Armoury Crate
  • HyperX NGENUITY
  • Wootility, etc.

These applications often install background services and drivers, and some of them can:

  • Remap keys or buttons
  • Create macros
  • Control RGB lighting
  • Adjust DPI or audio settings
  • Integrate with games

I’m wondering whether simply having these programs installed (without using any cheating features or macros) could trigger anti-cheat systems like Vanguard, Easy Anti-Cheat, BattlEye, FACEIT AC, or similar.

More specifically:

  • Has anyone ever been flagged or banned just because one of these peripheral drivers was installed?
  • Do anti-cheat systems distinguish between legitimate vendor software and suspicious driver-level software?
  • Is it generally recommended to close these applications before launching competitive games, or is it completely unnecessary?
  • Are there any well-known peripheral software packages that have caused compatibility or anti-cheat issues in the past?

I’m trying to keep my system as clean as possible while avoiding false positives, so I’d appreciate hearing about both official information and real-world experiences.

Thanks!

How does MFG's ban system actually work? I'm trying to understand why I keep getting falsely banned.

I'm making this post because I'm genuinely looking for answers, both from the community and, hopefully, from someone at MFG.

This isn't a rant, and I'm not trying to start drama. I simply want to understand what's happening.

I'm just a normal player.

  • I bought the game on Steam.
  • I play the game normally.
  • I don't cheat.
  • I don't use bots or automation.
  • I don't use macros.
  • I don't modify the game.
  • I don't intentionally use any third-party software that interacts with the game.

Despite that, I've now been banned three or four separate times, and every single ban has been for essentially the same reason:

  • Automated Play
  • Third-Party Software

At first, I assumed it had to be a mistake.

So I submitted an appeal to MFG, explained everything in detail, and waited.

Sometimes the situation was resolved. Sometimes it wasn't. But the biggest problem is that the exact same thing keeps happening again.

That's the part I don't understand.

If I were actually cheating, I would expect a permanent ban and that would be the end of it.

But repeatedly banning the same account for the same reason, even after multiple appeals, makes me wonder whether something on my system is being incorrectly detected.

If that's the case, I'd genuinely like to know what it is.

My biggest questions

  1. How does the ban system determine "Automated Play"?

Is it based on player behavior?

Specific software running in the background?

Hardware drivers?

Input patterns?

Or something else entirely?

  1. What qualifies as "Third-Party Software"?

This description is incredibly broad.

Many gamers run software such as:

  • Discord
  • MSI Afterburner
  • RTSS
  • Logitech G Hub
  • Razer Synapse
  • SteelSeries GG
  • OBS
  • Overwolf
  • NVIDIA App
  • AMD Adrenalin
  • Process Lasso
  • AutoHotkey (even when not used for the game)

Obviously some software could be problematic, while others are completely legitimate.

Without knowing what the system actually checks, it's impossible for legitimate players to know whether they're doing something wrong.

  1. Does MFG investigate repeated false positives?

If the same player keeps getting flagged for the same reason despite submitting multiple appeals, does that trigger any deeper investigation?

Or is every case simply treated as a completely new incident?

  1. Why aren't players told what actually triggered the detection?

I completely understand that anti-cheat developers don't want to reveal everything.

That makes sense.

But when a legitimate player receives multiple bans over several months (or years), with only a generic reason like "Automated Play" or "Third-Party Software," it's almost impossible to identify what needs to be fixed.

Even some basic guidance would help.

Why this is so frustrating

The worst part isn't even the ban itself.

It's the uncertainty.

Every time I launch the game, I end up wondering whether today will be another day where I suddenly lose access to my account for something I never intentionally did.

That's an awful feeling for someone who simply wants to enjoy the game.

Instead of thinking about completing tasks, improving my skills, or enjoying PvP, I'm constantly worried about whether the anti-cheat is going to flag me again.

That completely ruins the experience.

I'm not asking for special treatment

I'm not asking MFG to automatically unban me.

I'm not asking anyone to blindly believe my story.

I'm simply asking for transparency.

If there are known applications that can trigger false positives, tell us.

If there are configurations players should avoid, tell us.

If there are common causes of repeated false detections, tell us.

Most players—including me—would gladly remove or change whatever is necessary if we knew what the problem actually was.

Has anyone else experienced this?

I'm curious whether other players have experienced repeated bans for "Automated Play" or "Third-Party Software" despite playing legitimately.

If you have:

  • Did you ever find out what caused it?
  • Did MFG explain anything during your appeal?
  • Were you eventually able to stop it from happening?
  • Was there any software or hardware that turned out to be the culprit?

I'd really appreciate hearing about your experience.

I genuinely enjoy this game, which is exactly why I'm making this post.

I don't want to quit because of repeated false bans.

I just want to understand why this keeps happening and what legitimate players can do to avoid it.

Thanks for reading

I'm getting confused by all the flashlights in Gray Zone Warfare (Odin, M600, X400V, X300U, Klesch-2, NcStar...)

I've been trying to understand all the tactical lights available in Gray Zone Warfare, but I'm getting a bit overwhelmed.

I keep seeing names like:

  • Odin
  • SureFire M600
  • SureFire X300U
  • SureFire X400V
  • Klesch-2
  • NcStar

What are the practical differences (brightness, beam distance, mounting options, laser/IR, etc.)?

If anyone could give me a quick breakdown, I'd really appreciate it.

What do you actually get from leveling up in Gray Zone Warfare?

Hey everyone,

I'm a bit confused about the character level system in Gray Zone Warfare.

Besides the obvious level number going up, what exactly do you unlock or gain when your character levels up?

  • Do higher levels unlock any gear, weapons, storage upgrades, or traders?
  • Are quests tied to character level or only vendor progression?
  • Are there any gameplay advantages, stat increases, or is it mostly cosmetic?
  • What are the most notable rewards you've received from leveling up?

I've seen mixed information online, so I'd appreciate hearing from players who have reached higher levels (30+, 40+, 50+).

Thanks!

I’ve been running into a pretty annoying issue while playing Gray Zone Warfare. Whenever I aim down sights with a scope (especially higher magnification ones), my FPS drops significantly compared to normal gameplay.

Has anyone else experienced this? If yes, did you find any settings tweaks or fixes that helped stabilize FPS while scoped?

I’ve been struggling a lot with gear fear lately. Every time I get decent loot, I end up hoarding it or playing overly safe, which kind of ruins the experience and slows down my progress.

For those who’ve gone through this:

  • How did you mentally get over gear fear?
  • Any habits or mindset shifts that actually worked long-term (not just “just use your gear”)?

Also, I mainly play PvE, so I’m looking for a reliable, basic loadout that’s:

  • Cost-effective
  • Easy to replace
  • Good enough to handle most PvE situations without stressing too much about losing it

If possible, could you share:

  • Weapon + attachments
  • Armor setup
  • Meds / utilities
  • Any “must-have” items you always bring

Appreciate any advice, especially from people who used to struggle with this too.
