watching this series.. i gotta tell you i hate walter even more

the sheer amount of work mike and gus go through with hector, the whole lab setting, network etcetc all of those years of work and man hours just for that arrogant chemist teacher to send it all blowin to hell

its amazing how this show perfectly relates to walters persona and actions without even mentioning it.. its like everytime i see something that is used later in BB i feel as if walter didnt even care the lenghts people went to put him where he was.. just like mike tells him on that final scene between the 2 of them

If im ever a maths teacher i will use aoe examples

Considering the following attack rates and bonuses damage (buildings dont have armor in this example). numbers are not actual ingame values

Which unit does more damage within 2 constant minutes attacking?

  1. Capped ram: 2 base damage, 200 bonus damage. Rate of fire: every 5 seconds

  2. champion: 15 base attack, 40 bonus damage. rate of fire:every 2 seconds

HD version of Sforza is way better than DE version.. change my mind

Every single scenario makes you feel like an actual condotiero or mercenary thanks to the very specific and unique mechanics that are presented to you: from gaining the support of different factions, raiding the italian countryside, to sabotaging the competition and purchasing more and more army to gain the upper hand over your rivals. Plus the siege of milan is a great final scenario.

Whereas in DE version you start a senseless intro scenario that can be won with starting army, then tower hop towns with 0 storyline logic, then playing a boring 1v1 mediterranean map and a staggered 1v1 "islands" map. The only saving grace is scenario 5.

the storyline is also far better in HD which doesnt even have voice acting. The narrator is frikin machiavello and you understand the betrayals and drama of that era way better.

Honestly what were they thinking when they remade the campaign?

playing york as viking raiders is the way to go!

having played this map both as a conquest game (defeating 5/7 enemies) and building the wonder in york, i gotta say that obtaining 50k gold and almost all relics (13/15) simply by raiding the shorelines and coastal towns was the most satisfying albeit longer version to play this scenario. just look at that tasty K/D ratio of units and buildings

i settled in the isle of man so my kills were exclusively raids and barely some galley snipes as defense

quickest campaigns out there

without counting william wallace nor speedrun strats, which is in your opinion the quickest campaign out there? for me its Devapala, every scenario can be beaten under or around the 30 min mark

Lepanto updated?!

I used to always be able to amass enough navy and go to the turkish base to destroy everything with the cannon galleons but i just finished a 3rd try on the last couple of days and it is impossible to do this anymore...

the turkish player spams endless amounts of navy which they never did before and now turks get fast fire ships with the university techs making it even harder to push. i can simply win the wonder victory and avoid transports on my side but couldnt take more than 1 castle and dock on their side before loosing my navy several times

when was this battle so buffed for the turkish player? after water rework?

Arariboia Campaign

For my final review of The Last Chieftains campaigns i found Arariboia to be honestly the best one of the 3. Simple paced and kinda straight forward but some of the best campaigns are in fact like that (Barbarossa, Attila, Genghis Kahn etc.)

Exodus is a well done intro scenario presenting the settlements, blackwood archers and the precedent that this civs requires multiple armies all over the place to be effective and not 1 big ball of archers like your typical archer focused civ. the achievement can be won with 3 armies patrolling the cart path pretty efectively (lost barely 3 but the 1st one is impossible to protect and once i saved those 4 being captive by purple i also lost 1 to tower fire, thinking that was army and not carts)

Seeds of vengeance was the trickiest one in my opinion and i had to "cheat" by going to the old strat of rushing a castle and then adding eco, just to stay alive. After that a navy focus wins you the scenario convincingly since you can kill almost everything + the side objectives from the water. This scenario had plenty of AoE1 campaigns vibes (Caeser vs pirates and a few others)

France Antarctique is a very straight forward build and destroy scenario where you have to just focus on counter units (blackwood archers kill everything with the micro and poison damage, you just need to add champis to snipe the dangerous siege that melts them) First time i began to question if Mem de Sa would betray me, and not for the last time

Up in smoke was literally a banger, those barrels and the noice they made was really nice touch and gave 200% color and taste to the mission. Another build and destroy with latter focus on water but having to focus yet again in a low eco (tupi units are really cheap + their refund) and massing huge armies with constant replenish and queue's.

Rio de Janeiro was not the slugfest i thought it would be from all the negative comments. You have enough time to 3 tc start boom, place 2 defensive castles to avoid Cunhambebe's raids at home and focus entirely on water to defend the wonder. I dont get the hate for the Tupi navy on this one, FU galleons is all you need to defend the wonder vs Frank navy of all of them, which lakes bracer (+ you have the faster production bonus from scenario 3). after massing galleons, your tupi army of choice melts the divided bases of Cunhambebe, just be mindful of Durand land attacks, which took me almost by surprise and almost lost the wonder vs the bombard cannons (having some vils garrisoned inside a few keeps next to the wonder helps a lot)

The whole campaign felt very well designed, using the civs bonuses properly with the unit spam, poison damage vs superior units, etc. The story was also very well made making me fell every single time there would be a Mem de Sa betrayal around the corner (campaign trauma kicking in). The allied AI was as expected but the whole thing of portuguese, partnership, survival thing of the campaign aligned very well with the constant 2v2 of every scenario, forcing you to trade (gold wasnt very abundant in any scenario, even taking enemy gold piles wasnt enough on scenarios 4-5) Doesnt offer much replayabililty but the difficulty was on point and kept me focused and spamming the barracks, castles and docks queues constantly

Lautaro Campaign

Following my Last Chieftains Campaigns review (After 3 months, 2nd girl was born and had very little time!) i got to play the Lautaro campaign so i will give a small recap and overview for those who have still not played it or are struggling with it on legendary difficulty:

Gods of death and terror can perfectly be summarized in that 1 word: struggle. This one took me several replays, save scumming and learning about the patrols, gaia units etc until i got it right, simply because i wanted to try and get the achievement. Once that is settled and you learn that you just have to mass trash units and play towerdefense on the 3 closest to your base towns, its very straightforward. the side objectives are not worth it in my opinion and only distract you from the main goal. Go for them after getting the chievo for sure. Quite the intro scenario and definetely not worth the 1 sword rating, but stuff gets easier after this one.

Servant of the crown plays out kinda like Longshanks 3 where you gotta defend the castle (fort) builders with starting army, which you barely need to patrol on top of hills to get the work done. After that you betray Valdivia and have to destroy the same forts with a few bolas raider who you sadly cannot train further and the usual mass of trash counter units (slingers are really nice now considering spaniards send lots of militia line units to you). Breaking Guacolda out of prison is definetely worth it because she gives you really nice options for the following scenarios.

The battle of tucapel is the more chilled scenario of them all tempo wise, since you can freely boom and scout the map massing eco and army for the final push. The side objectives work fine considering the free time you have but are not needed at all save from the bombard cannons you can get. Think of it like Tamerlane 4 where if you do the achievements, the last battle is basically a cakewalk.

The elusive snake is the first true build and destroy scenario of the campaign with plenty harrasment from your enemies but nothing 2-3 well placed castles cant stop. Bolas raiders and konas should be the go to unit + some skirms to snipe conqs and hc. sad that you dont get to use more cannons considering the mapuche learnt how to use them after scenario 3 (kinda goes nowhere after that side objective, would have been a good "decission" to carry on to the last 2 levels, sadly you are stuck with mediocre mapuche siege to assault 3 fortifications

A taste of freedom kinda ends the story of scenario 4 but with a bang. a really good final scenario for a campaign, both play and story wise. Similar to the last one, you have a lot of pressure early on so be sure to get the mapuches allies help rather early (Guacoldas idea saves a lot of time and units) The siege of Santiago feels awesome (more so for a chilean player 11) but the city is well built, lots of space for microing your mobile units + the side objective of killing the foremen feels really difficult (didnt get to do it but i feel a big mass of boals raiders can do the trick rather quick from the cities sides)

The whole campaign felt a lot more put together than El Dorado and the whole story of the slave turned hero and the final showdown between protagonist and antagonist was really well done (actual history aside, but this is AoE in the end..) kinda felt like attila/aetius but from the other POV. Great campaign overall, worth a few more replays specially because mapuches UU feel awesome to use and the settlements bonus of spamming trash units is also very well used for a campaign of basically guerilla warfare and counter unit play. The scenarios also felt very different from the others and aside from the 1st mission which is borderline 3 sword difficulty, i feel a 1sword rating is well deserved. Missing only Tupi campaign now and as far as scenario 1 goes, it feels very good as well (i've heard its a grindfest all around so looking forward to it /s)

workshop gather point bug

this thing has been going on for months now and its quite annoying.. basically when you set the gather point left, right or above the workshop (doesnt matter if there is nothing around the workshop, bugs out as well) the units come from the lower corner of the building.

so if you want the unit to go "north" it comes out south and has to move all across the workshop with the well known clunky siege pathing and movement.

does anyone know how to go around this until they look into it and fix it?? so far the only thing that has worked for me is placing the workshop north of the gather point i want them to come out which is easier said than done considering map control, natural resources, etc.

some people have suggested to block the southern corner of the building with palisades or other stuff so that the units cant come out from there but that also is very micro intensive and some times bbc or scorpions (which are smaller than rams) have been bugged out between the buildings so its a bad idea
