Lunavity: A Drone Backpack That Boosts Human Jumps

Lunavity, developed by researchers at the University of Tokyo’s Rekimoto Lab, is a wearable multi-rotor system designed to augment human jumping ability. Mounted above the user, its drone-like rotors generate downward thrust that reduces the wearer’s effective weight and can dramatically increase jump height. Motion sensors allow the system to respond to body movements and help control the user’s trajectory. Originally presented as a research prototype, Lunavity was envisioned for applications ranging from mobility assistance and fall prevention to sports and recreational activities, rather than as a conventional flying jetpack: https://lab.rekimoto.org/projects/lunavity/

Genuinely curious: What is your actual daily use-case for running local LLMs?

I always see people hyping up local setups run models like DeepSeek v4 Flash locally, and I’m genuinely wondering what the actual workflow looks like. Online APIs are incredibly cheap right now (basically free for casual use), they are insanely fast, and they don't turn your PC into a space heater to run them. The online flagship models usually perform better out-of-the-box anyway. So what do you actually gain from running it locally? Is it purely for privacy? Uncensored models? Or is it mostly just the thrill of tinkering and owning the hardware? Help me understand what I'm missing here, because the cloud just seems mathematically better for 99% of tasks right now

what is deepmind's actual next move here? no bs.

the last couple of months have been an absolute bloodbath. fable drops and breaks the scale. openai fires back with gpt sol 5.6. the chinese labs aggressively dump kimi 3 and qwen 3.8 completely open source. and then opus 5 casually walks into the room like a final boss and flattens everyone.

it is a total war zone. but then you look over at google and deepmind, and they are just sitting quietly in the corner watching the room burn.

now i am no fortune teller, but my guess is they are playing the exact same chess move they did last time. they are letting anthropic and openai fight a bloody, incredibly expensive war over the premium cutting edge crown. they are just waiting for them to push their pricing through the absolute roof.

think about the history here. remember when claude was pacing the room with opus 4, and openai was charging the highest premium imaginable for o3? everyone was fighting over raw specs. and then google just casually walked in and dropped gemini 2.5 pro for absolutely free. they didn't even try to win the benchmark argument. they just weaponized their global scale, slid it into the ecosystem, and instantly hijacked the daily workflow for millions of normal people.

you don't win by charging fifty dollars for a slightly smarter math tutor. you win by building the infrastructure everyone actually uses.

we are looking at the exact same setup right now. the premium models are fighting over benchmark gains and burning mountains of cash. open source is flooding the basement. and google is probably just waiting in the wings to drop a hyper efficient gemini 3.5 pro that integrates seamlessly into everything and takes over the board all over again.

that is just my read on the market right now. i am curious what you guys think. are they actually stuck, or is this the setup for the infrastructure nuke?

need real world opinions on airpods pro 3 anc for daytime focus (upgrading from oneplus buds pro 2)

for a long time i struggled to understand why my mind only works properly late at night. my search history was full of things like 'why is my focus better at night than day' and 'why is my head so noisy in the morning'. after a lot of trial and error i realized it is not an adhd diagnosis or a life crisis, it just comes down to the silence. when the world gets quiet, my mind gets sharp. daytime brain fog for me is mostly overstimulation from background noise.

to test this theory i dug out my old oneplus buds pro 2 and started wearing them during the day. the difference was immediate. my thinking got sharper, focusing became way easier, and i started wearing them everywhere including in traffic and crowds.

the problem is that as i kept using them, i realized the oneplus anc is not actually doing much active noise cancellation. it feels more like passive isolation, basically the same as sticking your fingers in your ears. it muffles distant traffic and wind, but everything else bleeds right through. i can still clearly hear fan noise, people talking, birds, cooking sounds, door squeaks, and tv audio.

i am thinking about upgrading to airpods pro 3 specifically for the anc, but tech reviews are completely useless because they just say 'anc is amazing' without giving real context. i am looking for maximum silence, like that very late night feeling where sound is zero and your mind is clear and sharp.

for anyone who heavily relies on airpods pro 3 anc to focus, how do they handle those higher frequency and unpredictable daytime noises? is it a genuine blanket of silence where everyday ambient sounds vanish, or does noise still cut through? would love to hear your actual daily experience before i buy them.

Statistically, this shouldn't happen twice in 24 hours. But the physics engine just broke again, and now Wasp is using my corpse as a mattress.

So, let's talk about probability. It hasn't even been 24 hours since the Hermit incident, so I know exactly how this looks. It looks like the most shameless, goofy karma-farming attempt in the history of this sub. If I saw this on my timeline, I'd immediately downvote it myself.

But I am telling you, the algorithm in this game is fundamentally crumbling. I was grinding the Wasp weapon fight tonight, doing speedrun clutches with my cousin. Once again, it comes down to a microscopic sliver of health. Frame-perfect synchronization. A complete, mathematical anomaly where we both hit absolute zero at the exact same millisecond.

But this time, the game didn't just fold us like cheap lawn chairs. The physics engine completely gave up and dropped her directly on top of my lifeless body. Look at the screenshot. We are stacked up like some diabolical, post-apocalyptic pancakes. My cousin and I were literally screaming like we just saw a ghost.

I am only submitting Exhibit B to the r/Bard archives to scientifically document this glitch in the matrix. The game is just committing absolute daylight robbery at this point.

Catch you guys later.

google ai overview hallucinated an entire fake life for a twitch streamer, CaseOh.

i finally experienced the broken ai overview meme in the wild. i was just asking what caseoh does all day off stream, and the ai confidently spit out that he is some kind of secret underground powerlifter who has been doing heavy weightlifting every single day since he was seventeen.

it completely hallucinated an entire alternate reality where he focuses strictly on "raw lifting power". google literally looked at his mass and assumed he was out here bending steel beams in his free time instead of just eating waffle house. easily the funniest ai hallucination i've gotten so far.
