Closing times

Don't know who needs to hear this, but if a store closes at 9 PM, it closes at 9 PM (or 10 PM or 8 PM or whatever). That goes for all stores and if you're a customer, don't expect the store to be open after that and don't expect the store to be kept open just for you. Yes, this is targeted because I had three customers call in and complain about being kicked out after our store closed. Like... no shit? The store is closed, I wanna go home. Get out!

Was genau soll das alles? Was denkt ihr?

New week, new hell, so here's some things that happened last week

(I work in a craft store btw)

- Had a customer yell at me because she had to pay a 30€ fee for standing on the parking lot too long. The lot has a maximum parking limit of 2 hours and the parking lot does not officially belong to our store but to the shop across from ours. She apparently didn't see the 6!!! big signs that said that there's a 2 hour parking limit and apparently that was my fault (somehow)

- Had a customer asking for my manager because I lifted a 20kg bag for him and he felt like I was "mocking" him

- We asked a customer to leash her dog otherwise she couldn't come inside and this 60 year old woman proceeded to throw a temper tantrum like I've only ever seen from a 3 year old

- A man unpacked an entire box of screws because he only needed one and then got mad that I couldn't sell it to him

- A customer yelled at me because we kicked him out (our store closes at 8pm and he was still there at 8.15pm)

This was just in a five day week. I'm so tired

When rude customers come to my registers, I can't openly confront them. So I have to get a little creative.

- When customers don't say anything and just slam their card onto the cardreader, I don't activate it until they say that they want to pay with card.

- When I hold out my hand for them to give me they money and they drop it, ignoring my hand, I either give them their change in cents or I drop it as well and then apologize dramatically.

- When customers tell me I'm too fast and they can't catch up, I go so slow purposely, until everyone in line is annoyed.

- When a rude customer wants to buy cigarettes, I tell them we ran out.

- When a customer is rude when I'm having a bad day, I tell them my mother just died and working is the only thing distracting me.

Today was NOT my day. I woke up with a headache, I had an early shift, my bus was late, I forgot my energy drink and lunch at home and my period started. Today sucked from the very beginning. Still, I do like to work.

I work in a DIY store as a cashier and because it's Saturday, the weather was great and we were close yesterday, the store was bursting with customers. We have a total of eight registers + six self checkouts and they were all filled with customers. Mind you, the store was open for twenty minutes. So we were busy.

I was so busy that I totally forgot about my shitty start into the day until one of our regular assholes comes into the store. He's there almost every day and we all know (and hate him), he's rude, he's impatient and he's sexist and also weirdly touchy with me and my other female coworkers. He comes into the store, makes a beeline for my register, stands in front of all the other waiting customers and slams a broken screw down in front of me.

"Fix this." That was all he fucking said and he said it very loudly and very brashly. I told him that I was sorry and that he please goes to our information desk first and they would refer him to one of hardware experts. He refused. I repeated what I had said. The other customers at my register were annoyed, I was getting annoyed and I was not in the mood for his bullshit.

This fifty year old man with his stupid bald head and sweaty shirt then leans over the register, calls me a little lady and that I have to use my brain to do what I am getting paid for and I just snapped. Like I lost it on him. I was full on yelling.

I told him to get out of my face and to take his screw and to fuck off. I am not his little lady and I am also not getting paid to fix a screw I don't even know any information on. I was polite, I told him what to do and that my job is to scan items and to send customers on their way if they form a proper queue at my fucking register. I also did call him some nasty things and I was just crying at that point, so my coworker took me to the break room and my boss was called.

I didn't know what happened or how they resolved the issue, but my boss was surprisingly understanding and that it can be much and that he knows that the man is rude and also tends to be aggressive and that I should not worry about that man anymore. I know I was wrong for yelling and I should've been the bigger person in that situation. But I wasn't and that was wrong, I'm just really glad I have a really kind boss.
