Need Guidance: REC ECE vs CSE, Placements & Scholarship Doubts (190.5 BC Cutoff)

Hi seniors,

I have a 190.5 cutoff (BC category), and I'm considering joining Rajalakshmi Engineering College (REC) through TNEA. I have a few doubts and would really appreciate your honest guidance.

  1. Should I choose ECE or CSE at REC if my main priority is placements, with GATE as a backup option?
  2. How is REC overall? Is it worth joining compared to other TNEA colleges?
  3. What is the current placement situation for ECE? Are ECE students getting good placement opportunities, or do most students end up in IT jobs? How are the average and highest packages for ECE in recent years?
  4. If I get CSE at REC, would it be a better choice than ECE considering the current job market and future opportunities?
  5. I heard REC offers scholarships for eligible TNEA students. If I don't keep REC as my 1st preference and instead place it around 10th or 20th in my choice filling, will I still be eligible for the scholarship if I get allotted REC, or is the scholarship available only if REC is kept as the first choice?
  6. How is the environment at REC for GATE preparation, coding, internships, and placement preparation? Do students get enough support and time to prepare for competitive exams?

I would really appreciate honest feedback from current students or alumni, especially those from ECE and CSE.

Thank you in advance!

Confused abt ece or cs in saveetha engineering college

Hi seniors,

I have a 190.5 cutoff (BC category), and Saveetha Engineering College (SEC) is offering me a 100% scholarship through TNEA. I'm currently confused about a few things and would really appreciate your honest advice.

  1. Should I choose ECE or CSE at SEC if my main priority is placements, with GATE as a backup option?
  2. Is Saveetha Engineering College actually worth joining?
  3. I saw the placement statistics on the college website, and they look excellent. Are those placement figures genuine? How are the placements for an average student, especially in ECE?
  4. I was informed that I need to maintain a CGPA of 8.0 to continue the scholarship. However, I've heard that from this year, Anna University colleges may be following a percentage-based evaluation instead of CGPA. If that's true, will maintaining 80% be difficult? Do they strictly evaluate students, or is there any issue where students lose scholarships because of tough internal marking?
  5. If I don't keep Saveetha as my first choice during TNEA choice filling, will I still be eligible for the scholarship, or will it be cancelled?
  6. How is the overall environment at SEC for GATE preparation, coding, internships, and placement preparation? Is there enough support and time to prepare for competitive exams?

I would really appreciate honest feedback from current students or alumni, especially those who joined through the scholarship scheme.

Thank you in advance!

Confused abt taking vit chennai ece(cat 2) or tnea college like rec or savetha

Hi seniors,

I have two options for ECE:

  • VIT Chennai – Total cost (including tuition and hostel) will be around ₹15 lakhs.
  • TNEA colleges like Rajalakshmi Engineering College (REC) or Savetha Engineering College (SEC) – Total fees will be less than ₹3 lakhs. My TNEA cutoff is 190.5 (BC category), so I have a good chance of getting ECE in these colleges.

My main priority is placements, and I'm also considering preparing for GATE.

I've heard mixed opinions that ECE placements at VIT Chennai are not as strong as CSE, which is making me confused. Is spending an extra ₹12 lakhs on VIT Chennai worth it for ECE, or would it be a better decision to choose a TNEA college like REC or SEC and save the money?

I would be grateful if seniors, especially ECE students or alumni, could share their experiences regarding:

  • ECE placements
  • Internship opportunities
  • GATE preparation support
  • Overall return on investment (ROI)

Thank you in advance!

Inquiry Regarding Fees and Hostel Facilities at PSG Institute of Technology and Applied Research (PSG iTech)

Can I know the fees of PSG Institute of Technology and Applied Research (PSG iTech) for the ECE course through TNEA counselling? I belong to the BC community. What will be the total fees, including tuition and other academic charges? Please also provide details about the hostel fees. Is the college hostel good, or would you recommend staying in an outside PG?
