Whenever I'm coming to a stop, I just put slight pressure on the gear stick at around 1,000 rpm and the gear comes out smoothly without using the clutch.
I do it just because it is easier, but I'm curious if this is good, bad or doesn't matter to the transmission.
Thanks!
Edit: as it has been pointed out this depends on the transmission, I'm adding that this is a '24 Golf GTI
Edit 2: conclusion: thanks everyone for the answers, really interesting discussion. What I understand is that in terms of wear, if done right this could have a nearly negligible reduction in clutch wear but put the transmission at risk, for example if I hit a pothole at the wrong time. Clutch is cheap, transmission is not. So the consensus seems to be to always clutch. And that is what I'll do! Thanks again!
