Earthquakes happening around the world

Hi, so there’s been a string of earthquakes. Japan had a major one, Venezuela had a devastating one, and California recently had one as well, all within the last few days.

I don’t think it’s just Uranus and Gemini. would it have something to do with the upcoming Mars conjunction Uranus? It’s a few days out, but the energy of transit can usually be days felt days before and days after. Mars is also entering Gemini as well, but Gemini is an air sign, and not an earth sign which would relate more to earthquakes. Gemini explains all of the air tragedies lately though. Uranus definitely has something to do with it since all of these are sudden incidents.

Layoff Warnings Hit Thousands of School Employees

Thousands of U.S. public-school employees have received layoff warnings as the nation’s education system grapples with mounting financial pressures.

Here are the key statistics from the article

Several large school districts across the United States are reducing staff because of budget pressures and declining student enrollment. In Los Angeles, approximately 660 positions are being eliminated. The Clark County School District in Nevada is cutting around 700 positions while serving about 288,000 students, which is roughly 37,000 fewer students than it had at its peak enrollment. In Cleveland, about 400 employees are expected to lose their jobs, and 29 of the district’s 93 schools are being closed or consolidated. Cleveland’s enrollment has declined by about 50% over the past two decades and now stands at roughly 34,000 students. Nationwide, public school enrollment dropped by about 1.2 million students (2%) between 2020 and 2022, and projections suggest another 5% decline by 2031, which would amount to approximately 2.7 million additional students. Other districts reporting similar financial challenges include Chicago, Houston, Boston, Milwaukee, Philadelphia, and several Florida districts.

The Trump Administration just changed how special education, IEPs are overseen in schools

Under changes announced Tuesday, the Department of Justice will take over civil rights enforcement in schools, and the Department of Health and Human Services will oversee special education.

Alienated by Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr.’s claims about autism, advocates for disabled students are sounding the alarm about the Trump administration's shifting special education programs to his department.

The Trump administration’s decision this week to put Heath Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr., in charge of special education programs has sparked a sharp backlash from advocates for students with disabilities, who say the move will hurt children and that his views on autism make him unfit for the job.

Mr. Kennedy said earlier this year that children with autism would never hold a job, play baseball or go on a date. He quickly walked back the remarks, saying he was only speaking about the most severe cases — only to insist the next day that special education should be moved into his department. “They’re health-related programs rather than particularly educated programs,” Mr. Kennedy said.

Advocates for students with disabilities said that Mr. Kennedy’s comments show how the change puts disabled students at risk of being viewed as medical conditions to be treated instead of as boys and girls to be educated.

“It shows a fundamental lack of understanding of who kids with disabilities are, how they can be successful in school and how their futures can be very bright,” said Katy Neas, chief executive officer of The Arc, a national support group for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

The move is part of an extraordinary effort from the Trump administration to dismantle the Education Department, which supporters have said would improve government efficiency, lead to better results for students and satisfy a decades-long promise from Republicans to shutter the agency.

Closing the department entirely requires approval from Congress, which has focused on other matters this term. In the meantime, the Trump administration has transferred tens of billions in Education Department programs to the six different federal executive agencies, which includes health and human services.

Accidents involving air transits?

Hi, so I’m someone that’s very into astrology, but I’m a novice. Recently a series of tragic events related to helicopters, aircrafts, and bungee jumping, and base jumping happened within a span of 48 hours. All events have made national news. What transits are causing this? It’s fascinating that all instances included being far up in the air. I know that Uranus in GeminI plays a part. Forgive me if this is the wrong forum for this post, however. I figured people in the general astrology thread wouldn’t be able to do a deep analysis on why all of these events occurred so close to each other.

If you are unaware of the incidents, I’ll list them here:

In Brazil, a 21-year-old woman was a bungee jumping when she was thrown off a cliff without the rope attached.

Singer Oliver Tree and five other others died in a helicopter crash in Brazil when they collided with another helicopter.

12 people, 11 skydivers and one pilot, were killed in a plane crash in Missouri.

Two base jumpers were killed base jumping off the Grand County.

EDIT: A B-52 crashed and killed 8 At Edwards Air Force!

Raising/Sending Black girls abroad? Yay or nay?

I don’t have any children, but I was thinking that if I were to have girls in the future, would it be better to raise them abroad than in the U.S.?

I thinking in terms of their mental health, access to better health care and education, having them be exposed to different cultures, etc. I see numerous Black families moving to Africa(Ghana, Kenya, Rwanda) or Asia(Vietnam, Thailand, China, Singapore, Malaysia) and putting their girls into international schools. The girls seem to be thriving.

I even saw one Black mom mention in the comments about working multiple jobs to send her two daughters to a Swiss boarding school and having them home on the holidays.

I know racism is unfortunately everywhere and we’ll never escape it. I just want the best for my future girls. Boys, I think will be ok in the U.S. Black men/boys seem to have an easier time assimilating than Black women/girls. A lot of urban schools are underfunded and rife with poverty and low academic success(all by design). I want to give my daughters a brighter and healthier future. The international schools are diverse, so I’m not concerned about them being the only black students there. I feel like instead of sending them to white schools in the U.S. Where they’ll be outcasts and discriminated against or low quality urban schools, abroad might be a better option.

Wishing this for us: NYC Hotel Housekeepers to Earn Over $100K Under Historic New Union Contract

This is why unions are so important. The pay in many states is atrocious for teachers. Even here in the Northeast, for the amount of responsibility we have we should be paid no less than 100K starting out. If we have such an important job to shape and mold young minds, why are we not paid accordingly?

Anyway, I’m very happy for NYC housekeepers!

A school district in Maryland now expects teachers to potty train incoming students

As if teachers don’t already have 1 million other things to do they now have to take on the responsibility of potty training kindergartners—something that their parents should’ve already done before they entered school.

This reminds me of how few parents read to their kids, and how many are entering kindergarten not even knowing the alphabet.

I would be looking for a new job in another district if I was a kindergarten teacher in this school district.
