Bakugan revival/live-action movie set to launch in 2028 (from a recently released novel by the Spin Master Co-Founder & image from a post by ZepVarietyHour)

As per post by ZepVarietyHour over on Twitter/X (will not be including the link to the post) & from the newly released novel "No Experience Necessary" & with us being 1 year away from Bakugan's 20th anniversary if it goes as planned, Spin Master co-founder Ronnen Harary had mentioned in his autobio novel that the 4th Bakugan revival is set for a 2028 launch alongside the live-action movie (though, as time passes fast, there is a small chance that it'll release sometime in the 2030s if things go accordingly as per leaked photos from the 2026 Las Vegas Licensing Expo's Spin Master booth).

While this isn't the last thing that we saw from Zep's post, there was a comment that Ronnen Harary had talked about Bakugan being its own version of Hasbro's BeyBlade in its early development & also had expressed some regret on ending the Bakugan franchise after the series finale of Gen 1 in 2012 (though, the BakuTech! & Bakugan Armors spinoffs continued until 2014-2015 before the first reboot announcement).

Let me know what you're thoughts are down in the comment section below & I would recommend reading/listening to Ronnen's autobiographical novel about the rise & inevitable downfall of Bakugan.

What to (likely) expect for the 20th anniversary event (if it's happening at an expo, comic or movie convention (for the live action film))

As we are still less than a year away for a potential Bakugan 20th anniversary event (if it fully comes to fruition by Spin Master after they appeared in the 2026 Las Vegas Licensing Expo via leaks) & nothing new on the Bakugan film news other than the director (Brad Peyton) is currently working on another project for Prime Video (The Kellys) with no article/source in regards of him quietly exiting the Bakugan film project, here's what we might likely expect if an anniversary celebration event happens in 2027 outside of just the film being potentially announced (I would recommend checking out a YouTube video by San Diego Bakugan Brawlers, link below after my 5 predicted lists):

  1. We'll start things off with the toy side (I'm not going to count the potential collaborations to non-Bakugan franchises it may get) as we might get toy gadgets (example is a BakuGauntlet that has the Card Sword feature as depicted in the 2nd season of Gen 1) & action figure sized toys/figure statues, Gen 1, 2 & 3 toys that are potentially online store or convention-exclusive (Examples are a multipack to every version to Dragonoid from the first 3 Gens in a 3-pack or a 4-pack with the evolution to both Leonidas & Vladitor in Gen 1). Though, we may expect more Gen 2/3 toys with what San Diego Bakugan Brawlers mentioned on his video as opposed to Gen 1 since SEGA Toys doesn't co-own Gens 2/3 with Spin Master.
  2. The clothing & costumes/cosplay or other non-toy merch/collectibles we might get could be available as exclusives to stores like Spirit Halloween (for the costumes) &/or Hot Topic (potentially for the regular clothing & keychains).
  3. Updates on the film (if it still remains in redevelopment despite Brad Peyton had quietly exited the project to work on The Kellys for Prime Video without giving any explanation via news articles like Variety or Deadline) via cast/additional crew & title/studio distributor announcement &/or a Gen 4 announcement (this is if either the film reboot franchise expands or it gets reworked as an anime series) have remained radio silent since the February 2025 announcement amid that there has been production commitments to other film/TV projects by the director. For the film producing/distribution side of this, I won't directly go into the deep dive on which production company (either theatrical (as the director mentioned on the Spin Master PR about bringing the film to the big screen) or streaming (if he ends up changing his mind by doing streaming only instead of theatrical) will leave the distributor carousel via studio bid in favor to distribute the film.
  4. Literacy material like novels, comics & manga that could have some tie-ins &/or retcons on either the Gen 1 series (such as a retconned-origin story to Vestroia) or for the film/Gen 4 (prequel &/or sequel comics to be specific or tie-ins to Gen 4 that could rework the film as an anime series if Brad Peyton fully leaves the film project amid focusing on commitment to other film projects).
  5. While there hasn't yet there been full discussions about a physical release for a 4K remaster of all 4 seasons to Gen 1, this may be something new to be added for the 20th anniversary celebration with a new physical media distributor.

Mortal Kombat II became my 60th film I've seen in the IMAX format.

After seeing Mortal Kombat II (poster above), it has become my 60th IMAX-released film overall & man, this film was so huge on the action especially with some intense fighting scenes (sidenote: Sorry that I won't spoil too much from the film) shown in 1.90:1.

This is everything that was revealed for the domestic & foreign release slate by IMAX Corporation from the 2026 Q1 investor report in which it ranges from the release dates of late-April 2026 to the current 2027 calendar & dates still to be determined (screenshots can be shown above).

Let me know what your thoughts are down in the comment section below & I'll be showing every domestic & foreign film added or removed from the calendar slate on my pinned comment below.

A special surprise is that after many long years of rumors, debates & failed attempts for any International releases, the Sonic film series' 4th film will release in IMAX.
