Hong Kong layover. Can I just leave the airport?

Hi everyone
Basic question but I don’t know the answer.
I have an upcoming 7 hour layover in HK while leaving China via HK to Melbourne. I’d like to go into HK and have some lunch and stroll.
Can I just leave the airport? And then pop back later before my flight?
Cheers

Dried fruit shop (Beijing available in Guangzhou?

Hi everyone,
While in the pedestrian street in Beijing (the one south of Tiananmen Square) I went to this shop and bought dried fruit which was delicious. This shop is at the southern end of the pedestrian street.

Does anyone know if this brand of dried fruit is also available in Guangzhou? I don’t know the name of the shop.

Thanks for your help!

What does it mean when someone says ‘I’d like to travel and play with you’?

This year I (male) did some solo travel in China and planning another trip for next year.
One of my Chinese cousins said to me this year ‘I’d like to travel with you and play with you’. I declined as I wanted to be on my own.
On my return I had another cousin (female) say to me ‘I’d like to hang out with you and play if you have time’ and then ‘I’d really like to travel with you’.
What specifically does it mean when they say they’d like to play? Is it just the translation?

Issues with Holafly eSIM. Is it too late to change?

I’m in China at the moment, halfway through my 5 week trip. I’ve used Holafly previously no issues.

However this time, I’ve been having issues with social media videos stuttering or not playing at all. I’m from Australia and I can’t watch AFL highlights as the playback just stops and never restarts.

Messaging apps are working fine. No difference if I turn VPN on or off.

One time just as I arrived in Beijing I lost signal altogether. Couldn’t call a Didi at all. Separate story but I had to use a cab and got scammed when the driver realised I had an issue.

Got online with Holafly support and tried everything, eventually they replaced the eSIM saying it’s a VPN crackdown issue and it’s getting more and more common.

New eSIM still has same stuttering and it’s driving me nuts.

Is it too late to just get another eSIM? I’m not a heavy social media user, I just want to be able to scroll while I’m on the train etc.

Thanks everyone for your suggestions.

Temple of Heaven. I’m a foreigner and over 60. Do I get free entry?

I read that I can get free entry, is this correct and do I just turn up at the ticket gate with my passport?

East gate is closest to my hotel, can I enter there?Thank you everyone for your responses.

Xi’an Terracotta Warriors. Do I need to reserve a ticket?

Hello, I am currently in Xi’an and contemplating going to see the Terracotta Warriors. I’ll probably go there by train from the city centre.

Question is, do I need to buy and reserve a ticket in advance, or can I just turn up? I’d hate to get there and be turned away.

Planning to go later in the day when it’s not so busy.

Thank you everybody.

Hi everyone. I am from Australia touring around for 5 weeks, with the aim of doing a lot of walking. Before I came I bought Hoka Bondi 9 and they were felt fine.

After I got here and started walking long distances I have blisters on two toes on my left foot and in some discomfort. I am particularly concerned about a hike along the Great Wall in a week.

The question is can anyone recommend a brand and model Chinese running shoe similar in performance to the Hokas? Would Chinese running shoes be up to the task? I just need something to get me through to the end of my trip to allow the blisters to heal and I don’t want to spend a stupid amount of money.

Cheers.

Hello

I am in China presently (Taishan) touring around. I have AliPay and WeChat setup and use the payment options just fine.

However I did not know I had to verify the Didi mini app within AliPay before I left Australia and I have since found I cannot use it. Also the same with bike share as I want to be able to cycle around.

Is there a way around these issues or so I now need to get a Chinese number? And how does a Chinese number affect my existing eSIM? Would it then mean I change my WeChat messaging to the Chinese number?

Is it too much hassle for what it’s worth?

Thank you.
