Post surgery advice

I was diagnosed 2 weeks ago with, because dark humour is how I cope, “best case scenario lobular cancer”. It’s stage 1 or 2 (lymph node biopsy was clear but they’ll only rule them as totally benign once envied and tested), ER+, PR+, HER2-. We caught it super early because i’m high risk and have annual contrast MRIs. Although it’s just on the right, I’ve made the decision with my team to do double mastectomy with reconstruction probably in the same surgery.

If you’ve had similar ops, what did you find most helpful in the days immediately afterwards? I live alone (father has Alzheimer’s, mother is his caregiver, and I don’t have a relationship with my sister who is homeless and an addict). I’m still not really processing what’s about to happen to my body, so thought trying to focus on practical preparation might help

Do I tell my dad I have cancer?

I (39,f) have found out I have breast cancer. My father (85) has fairly advanced Alzheimer’s- but he still knows who I am and I’m one of his favourite people that brings him a lot of joy. I don’t want to destabilise him, would it be better if he just doesn’t know? Treatment for me will likely be surgery, so there will be a physical difference in me in the coming months

Breast biopsy after MRI

I (39,f) have been having regular mammograms since my 30s and in the past few years, my radiologist added contrast MRIs. Everything has always been fine so when I went for my annual MRI on Monday, I didn’t think much of it when the practice called me in for an ultrasound as well (they often do those too). But when I got there, I was told there was an adverse finding on my MRI that she didn’t like the look of, and she confirmed this with the ultrasound. I had a core needle biopsy the very next day (yesterday). She said the results would be back today but they aren’t. I don’t know how to face the weekend with this paralysing fear it’s cancer.

Has anyone else gone through something like this? How did you get through it? (Based in South Africa so any dr or medical advice may not apply if you’re in the States or Europe).

Post op pain

I had my op on Thursday last week - labral repair (12 to 3pm), removal of bony spurs, extensive pincer resection, Resection of a large anterolateral femoral cam lesion. I didn’t have too much pain apart from the first day. But today the pain is a deep ache in my back and groin, stinging around the stitches. Is this to be expected? It’s a public holiday tomorrow where I am so I can’t reach my surgeon and Google is making me anxious 😬
