And now i hate myself. I just want to explore without running into rare monsters who will push my shit in. I still have a bit of story left.

I just arrived at the Port now and I think generally speaking most of my gear has been purchased which is fine.

I have Balthier set to steal from everything at >90% hp.

I know Trial mode is a decent way to get gear, but I heard it can also make the game too easy.

Is this similar to the normal experience? I feel like in other FF games, there's a lot more to find. I know the random chests have a lot to do with.

Also, i'm never sure what I can sell. I just keep everything I have in stacks of 5 and sell the rest. Which makes purchasing gear a little rough.

TLDR; where/when do i start finding the good gear and what is okay to sell?

Around level 30, while still working my way through the story. Just wanted someone to share the achievement with.
